The Launch

Avocados From Mexico, the top-selling avocado brand in the U.S., has launched AVO.AI, a custom conversational AI platform built to answer consumer questions on ripeness, storage, nutrition, and recipes. The rollout, timed to National Avocado Day on July 30, positions the brand as the first in the produce industry to deploy a proprietary AI answer engine rather than relying on generic third-party integrations.

Record Volume, Digital Ambition

The launch arrives on the heels of a record import season: Americans consumed 2.76 billion pounds of Mexican avocados in the most recent period, a figure that underscores both category scale and the appetite for digital support tools that can convert casual buyers into confident, repeat consumers. For a produce marketer, the logic is straightforward — higher volume means more first-time buyers with basic handling questions, and those queries increasingly land on AI platforms rather than traditional search engines.

AVO.AI was built in partnership with 270B, a technology firm. Rather than drawing from the open web, the tool operates against a curated, brand-approved vector database, restricting its outputs to content vetted by Avocados From Mexico. Kristian Bottini, CEO of 270B, described the architecture as "engineered for genuine dialogue, intuitively understanding consumer intent and context to deliver helpful, conversational answers." The closed-content approach is positioned as a brand-safety feature, eliminating the risk of the engine surfacing unverified prep techniques — a practical concern for a category where improper knife handling is a well-documented kitchen hazard.

Strategy Beyond the Chatbot

Avocados From Mexico President and CEO Alvaro Luque framed the tool as part of a longer AI investment arc. "We've spent years using AI to bring unexpected, fun experiences to our fans, and AVO.AI is our next big leap," he said. "This goes beyond selling more avocados and puts the focus on making your kitchen life easier and a lot more inspired."

On the commercial side, the platform functions as a first-party data asset. Anonymous interaction logs will feed the brand's Answer Engine Optimization strategy — a discipline focused on ensuring brand content surfaces correctly when consumers query AI platforms directly rather than clicking through search results. As AI-driven search reshapes consumer discovery, produce marketers and grocery retailers alike are examining how to maintain brand visibility in an environment where a single AI-generated answer may replace multiple organic search clicks.

The brand says AVO.AI will be integrated into "major cultural marketing moments" as the platform scales, though it did not provide a specific roadmap or investment figure. The current release is described as phase one of a broader digital evolution. For the broader produce and fresh-food retail sector, the launch sets a benchmark: proprietary AI tools trained on brand content, rather than bolted-on chatbot widgets, may become the new standard for category marketing at scale.
