The Launch
BarrelPick.com, a new digital marketplace for full-barrel bourbon ownership, made its public debut at the 2026 Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown during the event's fifth consecutive sold-out year — positioning itself at the intersection of craft spirits tourism and direct-to-enthusiast commerce.
The platform lists more than 1,000 barrels sourced from more than 20 distilleries and producers across the United States, ranging from newly filled stock to barrels with more than a decade of aging. Purchasers assume control of a specific physical barrel: they can extend the aging period, request pull samples, and ultimately direct how the whiskey is proofed and bottled. Partial bottling is available beginning at 48 bottles, with the remaining whiskey left to continue aging.
Why It Matters
The launch targets a beverage alcohol segment that has demonstrated durable consumer demand. The Kentucky Distillers' Association reported approximately 2.7 million visits to Kentucky Bourbon Trail experiences in 2025, underscoring the category's draw for high-engagement consumers willing to invest time and money in whiskey culture. Private barrel programs have long been available to retailers and on-premise accounts; BarrelPick.com's model extends that infrastructure to individuals, families, corporate buyers, and membership organizations seeking a customized release tied to a specific occasion or milestone.
"Most people experience bourbon only after every important decision has already been made," said Steve Scheidecker, founder of BarrelPick.com. "We wanted to give people the opportunity to experience bourbon from the other side of the barrel."
The company is explicit that the offering is structured around physical ownership and consumption rather than financial speculation — a distinction likely to matter to regulators and compliance teams as the platform scales. BarrelPick.com coordinates the compliance and logistics required to move a barrel from acquisition through eventual bottling, which has historically been a barrier to individual ownership in a heavily regulated category.
Storage and Operations
Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood — just outside Louisville — serves as the platform's storage and bottling partner, giving participating barrels a Kentucky domicile that preserves straight bourbon eligibility requirements. Owners access barrel tracking, specifications, and status updates through the platform and can initiate the bottling process when ready, choosing barrel-strength output or a proofed-down expression. Custom label and bottle design are included in the workflow.
At the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, BarrelPick.com offered limited Sample Sets of five barrel-strength single-barrel pulls from current inventory and hosted an inaugural Single Barrel Showcase at Kentucky Artisan Distillery prior to the festival, where guests could taste directly from warehouse barrels and observe the bottling operation firsthand.
The platform's debut comes as beverage alcohol operators continue to explore direct-to-consumer engagement models as a hedge against softening on-premise volumes. For distilleries, participating in a barrel marketplace offers an additional demand channel for aged inventory without the capital commitment of building a proprietary private-barrel sales force. The model also aligns with broader premiumization trends reshaping the spirits and craft beverage sector, where consumers increasingly seek provenance, customization, and experiential ownership over standardized shelf product.
