BHU Foods has relaunched its snack portfolio with a repositioned product line built around organic, plant-based protein, adding retail doors at Sprouts, Erewhon, and Mom's Organic Market as it extends distribution from the West Coast into the East Coast for the first time under the new identity.
Founded in 2015 as a keto-focused bar brand, the Bethlehem, Pa.-based company is pivoting to a protein-and-fiber platform it describes as a broader better-for-you proposition — one designed to capture mainstream wellness shoppers rather than a dedicated keto cohort. The reformulated line is available now through Amazon and direct-to-consumer at bhufoods.com, alongside the new brick-and-mortar placements.
The Product Shift
The refreshed lineup carries full USDA Organic certification, Non-GMO Verification, and is formulated without gluten, soy, seed oils, or sugar alcohols. Pea protein replaces dairy and whey across all refrigerated bars, making the full refrigerated assortment vegan-compliant. The product range spans full-size refrigerated bars, mini snack bars, and Superfood Bites — a format mix that targets both meal-replacement and impulse-snack occasions at retail.
Amanda Iampietro, Chief Commercial Officer of BHU Foods, framed the relaunch as a deliberate strategic shift rather than a cosmetic refresh. "We're simplifying better-for-you snacking with organic, plant-based nutrition and ingredients consumers can both enjoy and feel good about," she said. The brand's new tagline, Bite Into Better, reinforces positioning around active, on-the-go consumption without rigid dietary restriction.
Why Retail Placement Matters
The choice of retail partners signals clear channel strategy. Sprouts Farmers Market and Erewhon are high-velocity outlets for emerging better-for-you brands on the West Coast, while Mom's Organic Market gives BHU Foods a natural-channel foothold in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. For a relaunching brand without mass-grocery presence, this tiered approach limits promotional spend while keeping the product in front of the core wellness consumer most likely to trial premium-priced organic snacks.
The move reflects broader momentum in the functional snack segment. Better-for-you bar and bite categories have drawn sustained retailer interest as shoppers trade up from conventional confection toward products with cleaner ingredient decks and recognizable protein claims. Pea-protein formulations in particular have gained traction as brands seek plant-based credentials without the allergen or supply-chain complications associated with soy or tree-nut proteins. No revenue figures, unit volume targets, or funding details were disclosed in connection with the relaunch. As reported by Food & Beverage Magazine, consumer demand for transparent labeling and minimal-processing claims continues to drive new entrants and relaunch activity across the snack bar segment.
