The Retail Move

BIOptimizers, the 22-year-old supplement company founded by Matt Gallant and Wade Lightheart, has placed two exclusive magnesium formulas on shelves at select Whole Foods Market locations nationwide — its first products ever stocked by the natural and organic grocery chain.

The two SKUs, Magnesium Breakthrough and Magnesium Breakthrough Advanced, target the sleep, stress, and recovery segment of the functional supplement aisle. Magnesium Breakthrough delivers seven bioavailable forms and 500 mg of elemental magnesium; the Advanced version supplies 10 bioavailable forms and 550 mg, adding a healthy metabolic function positioning to its label claims.

Why Whole Foods

For BIOptimizers, Whole Foods Market represents a natural channel upgrade. The retailer's shopper base skews toward health-conscious consumers who are already familiar with premium supplement pricing and multi-ingredient formulation logic — demographics that align closely with the brand's direct-to-consumer customer profile. Natural and organic grocery remains one of the fastest-growing points of distribution for condition-specific supplements, as mass-market retailers consolidate shelf space around lower-cost, single-ingredient formats.

"Whole Foods Market's focus on wellness and high quality standards make it a natural fit for our rigorous, science-first approach," said Rajaa Grar, Chief Marketing Officer of BIOptimizers. The company says product development is underpinned by more than 80,000 lab tests conducted by PhD scientists at its European BIOLab.

The Whole Foods listing follows a string of brand-building moves that signal a deliberate push toward broader consumer awareness. In June, BIOptimizers named Jay Shetty — global bestselling author and host of the On Purpose podcast — as its first-ever global brand ambassador, pairing the appointment with a refreshed premium visual identity. Together, those investments point to a company preparing its brand infrastructure for mainstream retail at scale, where shelf presence must compete with established names from Thorne, Garden of Life, and New Chapter.

Competitive Context

The magnesium supplement category has seen sustained momentum as consumer interest in sleep quality and stress management has broadened the addressable market well beyond sports nutrition. Multi-form magnesium formulas — which combine glycinate, malate, citrate, and other chelated variants to address absorption and bioavailability — have become a key point of differentiation among premium brands seeking to justify higher price points relative to commodity oxide-based products.

BIOptimizers has appeared on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies for five consecutive years, though it has not disclosed revenue figures publicly. The Whole Foods placement, while limited to select doors rather than the full chain footprint, gives the brand a bricks-and-mortar foothold that can support future range extensions and expanded distribution conversations. Operators and category buyers in the natural channel will be watching sell-through data closely to gauge whether BIOptimizers' direct-to-consumer brand equity translates at retail shelf.
