The Raise
Boba POPS, the alcohol-filled popping boba brand created by Pittsburgh-based Unifying Spirits, closed a Wefunder equity crowdfunding round at $2.238 million raised from 462 individual investors, the company announced Monday. The close pushes Unifying Spirits' total equity financing to approximately $8 million, with roughly half of that capital contributed by experienced beverage industry investors — a signal that institutional sector knowledge is aligning behind the brand alongside its retail consumer base.
Revenue and Distribution
The fundraise arrives on the back of a year of rapid commercial scaling. Boba POPS generated $2.8 million in revenue in 2025, a 3.6x increase over the prior year, and the brand now occupies more than 10,000 points of distribution spanning 75 national retail chains. The product holds patents through 2035, giving Unifying Spirits a decade-long window of exclusivity in what the company characterizes as an entirely new beverage alcohol category — alcohol-filled popping pearls designed to be added to cocktails, champagne, seltzers, and other drinks for a burst-on-contact sensory experience. Eight flavor SKUs are currently in market, ranging from Blueberry and Strawberry to Margarita Style and Piña Colada Style variants.
The alcohol-enhanced RTD and experiential beverage segment has drawn sustained investor attention as major spirits and beer conglomerates compete for younger consumers seeking novelty formats. Boba POPS sits at the junction of bubble tea culture — a category that has seen double-digit retail growth in recent years — and the premiumization trend reshaping on-premise cocktail menus. That positioning has helped the brand extend beyond liquor retail into bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues, channels the company is actively prioritizing with the new capital.
Capital Deployment
Unifying Spirits plans to direct the Wefunder proceeds across four workstreams: expanding domestic manufacturing in Pittsburgh with proprietary equipment expected to increase capacity approximately fivefold; accelerating national retail distribution; deepening on-premise partnerships across foodservice and hospitality; and advancing product innovation, headlined by an upcoming ready-to-drink beverage line. The Pittsburgh production buildout is the most capital-intensive initiative and is intended to tighten supply chain control ahead of what the company projects as rising consumer demand.
"This campaign represents much more than capital; it represents a community of people who believe in where we're headed," said Ray Rozycki, Chief Executive Officer of Unifying Spirits. "The enthusiasm we've seen from both consumers and investors reinforces that people are looking for new experiences in beverage alcohol."
For operators and retail buyers, the capacity expansion addresses a practical constraint that has historically limited emerging brands: the ability to commit to national account volumes. A fivefold manufacturing increase, if executed on schedule, would substantially improve Boba POPS' ability to fulfill large-format retail and distributor purchase orders without supply disruptions — a common pain point for early-stage beverage companies moving from regional to national scale. Retailers and on-premise operators tracking the emerging beverage alcohol trends space will want to monitor how quickly the Pittsburgh facility comes online and whether the RTD extension can broaden the brand's shelf-set footprint beyond the novelty-add-in positioning. The crowdfunding investor base of 462 backers also functions as a built-in community marketing channel, a dynamic increasingly common in the craft and specialty beverage segment as brands seek engagement beyond conventional distributor push strategies.
