The Growth Signal
Califia Farms is parlaying its grip on the coconut milk shelf into an adjacent creamer play, launching two Organic Coconut Creamers — Organic Vanilla Crème and Organic Toasted Coconut — along with a new Unsweetened Coconutmilk SKU. The move arrives as MULO+Natural scan data for the 52 weeks ending September 6, 2026 shows coconut milk segment dollar sales up 17%, with Califia accounting for 82% of that category growth.
The launches extend the Los Angeles-based company's Simple & Organic platform, which it first applied to coconutmilk following a 2024 introduction. Since then, coconut has become the brand's highest-growth plant base, outpacing the almond and oat segments that defined Califia's earlier commercial history. Both new creamers carry USDA Certified Organic status, contain no oils or gums, and retail at $6.99 MSRP for 25.4-ounce bottles. The Unsweetened Coconutmilk, positioned as a cooking and coffee staple with 50% more calcium than dairy per cup, is priced at $5.69 MSRP in a 48-ounce format.
Category Context
The expansion reflects a broader repositioning of coconut within the plant-based dairy alternatives market. Once a niche ingredient concentrated in foodservice and specialty retail, coconut-based beverages have migrated into mainstream grocery channels on the back of consumer demand for creamy texture and clean ingredient lists. For Califia, the progression from ambient coconutmilk into refrigerated creamers mirrors the trajectory it followed with oat milk — establishing share in the base-milk subcategory before moving up the value chain into higher-margin creamer formats.
Suzanne Ginestro, Chief Marketing Officer at Califia Farms, pointed to café momentum as the initial demand signal. "We saw the momentum start in cafes and we offered a product that consumers can easily use across multiple at-home occasions like matcha, overnight oats, coffee, and cooking," she said. The comment underscores a recurring dynamic in the plant-based beverage segment: foodservice exposure builds familiarity that converts to retail trial, a pattern that proved durable for oat milk and appears to be repeating with coconut.
Influencer and Trade Activation
To support the launch, Califia announced a content partnership with Samah Dada, founder of Dada Eats and a cookbook author, who has used the brand's products in plant-based recipe development. The partnership generated original recipe and lifestyle content built around Califia's coconut portfolio. It culminated in an invite-only Supper Club event in New York City on October 6, where Dada curated a menu incorporating Organic Coconutmilk, Unsweetened Coconutmilk, Toasted Coconut Almondmilk, and the new Organic Vanilla Crème Coconut Creamer.
Influencer-anchored retail activations have become a standard go-to-market tool in the premium plant-based segment, where brand credibility among wellness-oriented consumers often determines shelf velocity. Califia's choice of a recipe-focused creator — rather than a lifestyle or fitness personality — signals a deliberate positioning of the coconut creamer line around culinary versatility rather than performance nutrition, a distinction that matters for retail buyer conversations and foodservice menu placements.
With coconut creamers now sitting alongside its broader portfolio of plant milks, barista products, and ready-to-drink coffees, Califia is broadening the number of consumption occasions it can capture per shopper — a metric increasingly central to how plant-based beverage brands defend shelf space against private-label competition in a maturing category.
