The Stakes

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) is deploying more than $1 million in free food as currency for its third annual Chipotle IQ promotion, running August 18 through August 20, 2026 — a three-day digital trivia contest that has become one of the quick-service sector's most closely watched loyalty-engagement plays. Chipotle Rewards members in the U.S. and Canada can visit ChipotleIQ.com to compete for buy-one-get-one free entrée codes, free Cilantro Lime Sauce offers, free Queso Blanco offers, and bonus rewards points.

The scale of the prize pool reflects the program's traction. Chipotle Rewards members completed more than 1.8 million Chipotle IQ quizzes in 2025, nearly double the volume recorded in 2024, according to Stephanie Perdue, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing at Chipotle. For operators and restaurant-industry observers, that trajectory signals that gamified loyalty mechanics are generating measurable repeat engagement — and reducing the cost-per-interaction of loyalty spend relative to blanket discount campaigns.

Prize Mechanics

Each hour during the promotion window — 6:00 a.m. PT to 5:59 p.m. PT on each of the three days — the first 8,000 players who score a perfect 5 out of 5 on the multiple-choice and true-or-false quiz will win a food reward. Hourly prizes are structured as 5,000 BOGO entrée offers, 1,500 free Cilantro Lime Sauce offers, and 1,500 free Queso Blanco offers. Players who score 4 out of 5 earn 25 Chipotle Rewards points, while those who post a perfect score but miss the hourly cutoff receive 50 bonus points. Up to 5 million Chipotle Rewards points are available each day.

New this year, a Silver Ticket Sweepstakes gives 53 perfect-score players a bonus question; those who answer correctly win free burritos for a year. The chain is also introducing Daily Streaks — bonus points and exclusive Rewards badges awarded to members who play on two or three consecutive days — a mechanic designed to extend session frequency and drive repeat restaurant visits beyond single-day spikes.

Loyalty Beyond the App

The most structurally novel element of the 2026 edition is a limited-edition physical Chipotle IQ card game — the first time the brand has extended the IP to a tangible collectible format. Through "The Game Night Sweepstakes," Rewards members can exchange 10 points in the Rewards Exchange for a sweepstakes entry between August 17 and August 31 for a chance to win the card set alongside a Build Your Own Family Meal. The physical format is a departure for a chain that has invested heavily in digital-first loyalty, and it points to a broader industry pattern: quick-service brands increasingly seeking off-premise touchpoints that reinforce brand affinity outside the transaction itself.

The Chipotle IQ promotion sits inside the chain's larger Summer of Extras initiative, which runs June 1 through August 31 and layers in monthly streak challenges, state and national leaderboards, side quests for additional points, and a forthcoming social-media stats-sharing feature. Chipotle operates more than 4,200 restaurants across the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Middle East. "With new challenges, more opportunities to earn rewards and our first-ever collectible card game, we're creating an expanded Chipotle IQ experience that rewards real fandom while giving guests new ways to engage with Chipotle beyond the restaurant," Perdue said.
