Retail Expansion

Chocolove, the Boulder, Colorado-based premium chocolate maker, is adding two nut-and-sea-salt bars to its Walmart assortment this month: Pistachios & Sea Salt in Milk Chocolate and Walnuts & Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate. The launch extends the brand's presence in the mass retail channel and brings its total Walmart sweet-and-salty SKU count to four.

The new bars join two existing Walmart offerings — Hawaiian Sea Salt in Strong Dark Chocolate and Almonds & Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate — giving the chain a fuller representation of Chocolove's nut-and-salt format. All four items will appear in the brand's redesigned packaging, a refresh the company says retains existing recipes while delivering an updated shelf presence.

Channel and Promotional Play

Alongside the product additions, Chocolove is activating a cash-back promotion through the Ibotta app, covering qualifying purchases at Walmart and other supported retailers. The Ibotta partnership is a growing mechanism in the confectionery category, where impulse-driven products benefit from app-based incentives that can drive trial at scale among price-conscious mass shoppers.

The timing reflects broader market dynamics. Sweet-and-salty confectionery has been one of the more durable flavor trends in premium chocolate, with pistachio in particular riding a wave of consumer interest amplified by viral dessert formats in recent years. Positioning pistachio in milk chocolate — a more accessible cacao profile than dark — signals a deliberate move to capture mainstream Walmart shoppers rather than core dark-chocolate enthusiasts.

Sustainability and Sourcing

Chocolove positions the new bars within its existing sourcing framework: traceable cocoa beans, Rainforest Alliance Certification, no artificial preservatives, and Non-GMO Project Verification. For buyers and category managers evaluating shelf placement, those credentials increasingly serve as table stakes in the premium and better-for-you confectionery segment.

"Our Pistachio and Walnut bars are both tasty and rich in texture, each delivering a satisfying balance of sweetness and saltiness, with a bit of crunch," said Sara Famulari, VP of Marketing at Chocolove. The company, founded in 1995, produces more than 50 SKUs across bars, cups, bites, and seasonal formats.

The Walmart expansion is a meaningful distribution milestone for an independent brand that competes against well-capitalized confectionery players in mass retail. Securing and growing shelf space at the world's largest retailer typically requires demonstrated velocity data, and Chocolove's existing two-SKU presence in the channel suggests sufficient sell-through to warrant the expansion. Operators and food retailers tracking the premium chocolate segment will note that nut inclusions and sea salt remain reliable co-drivers of perceived indulgence and premium pricing.
