The Launch
Death Wish Coffee Co., the top-ranked Fair Trade and organic roasted coffee brand in the United States by SPINS MULO scan data, will begin selling a White Chocolate Pistachio medium roast exclusively through its direct-to-consumer channel on September 29. The 9-ounce ground bag carries a retail price of $13.99 and is slated to reach major retailers and Amazon in 2027.
The release is timed to autumn demand for seasonal specialty coffee, a window that has become increasingly competitive as mainstream and independent roasters alike vie for share in the flavored-coffee segment. By launching direct-to-consumer first, the Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based company retains pricing control and captures first-party consumer data before committing to broader shelf space.
The Flavor Bet
White Chocolate Pistachio is crafted with Certified Fair Trade arabica and robusta beans and contains no artificial flavors, a specification the brand emphasizes to appeal to specialty-coffee consumers who scrutinize ingredient sourcing as closely as flavor. The blend is positioned as low-acidity and smooth — attributes that broaden its accessible occasion set beyond the brand's historically bold, high-caffeine identity.
Pistachio has moved well beyond its traditional confectionery foothold. The U.S. pistachio market was valued at $2.3 billion in 2025, according to Grand View Research, and is projected to reach $3.2 billion by 2033 — a compound trajectory that has not gone unnoticed by food and beverage manufacturers across categories. From gelato to ready-to-drink lattes, operators and CPG brands have accelerated pistachio launches throughout 2025 and 2026 as the flavor profile attracts both indulgence-seeking and health-forward consumers.
"Pistachio profiles are exploding, but we weren't interested in making just another play-it-safe fall coffee," said Sasha Auguste, Chief Marketing Officer of Death Wish Coffee. "We built a blend that offers deep, cozy indulgence without compromising on our sustainably sourced standards or our signature smooth taste."
Retail Implications
The phased distribution strategy — DTC first, mass retail and e-commerce marketplace in 2027 — is consistent with how specialty beverage brands test sell-through velocity and refine marketing messaging before negotiating slotting with major grocery chains. Death Wish Coffee is already present in more than 25,000 stores nationwide across its core lineup, which includes Dark Roast, Medium Roast, Espresso Roast, Light Roast, and Valhalla Java, all certified Fair Trade and organic.
For grocery buyers and category managers, the 2027 retail timeline signals that shelf-set discussions for the seasonal SKU are likely already underway. Flavored specialty coffee has become a meaningful traffic driver in the packaged coffee and hot beverages aisle, and pistachio's crossover appeal — resonating with dessert occasions as well as wellness positioning around nut-based ingredients — gives the format broader demographic reach than a standard pumpkin spice or mocha seasonal variant.
The launch also underscores ongoing consumer demand for ethical sourcing credentials in premium coffee, where Fair Trade and organic certifications increasingly function as baseline expectations rather than differentiators in the specialty tier.
