Doughy, the Santa Monica-born cookie dough brand that holds the No. 1 sales position at Erewhon, has unveiled a full brand refresh and entered Target's refrigerated dough aisle — its highest-profile mass-retail placement to date — backed by a multi-firm investor syndicate with deep roots in better-for-you consumer packaged goods.

The Investor Stack

The funding coalition includes Oversubscribed Ventures — the consumer-focused vehicle co-founded by Erin and Sara Foster — alongside Corazon Capital, Amok Consumer Growth Fund, Quorum Capital Partners, Bluestein Ventures, and Simple Food Ventures. The raise, whose total size was not disclosed, draws in operators with direct scaling experience: John Lowe, Managing Director of Amok and former CEO of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams; Rachelle Lynch, Operating Partner at Amok, who has advised Jeni's, Hu, and Magic Spoon; and Lindsay Levin, former CMO of RXBAR and Venture Partner at Bluestein Ventures.

"What made Jeni's special in its early days was the ability to take something familiar and completely reinvent it," said Lowe. "Kelly has done the same with cookie dough, building an entirely new recipe around cashews. It's a game-changing innovation that delivers exceptional taste, simple ingredients, and a naturally gluten-free, low-glycemic product."

Product and Retail Strategy

Doughy was founded by Kelly Ramey and distinguishes itself from conventional cookie dough through a cashew-and-maple-syrup base that eliminates refined flour, oils, and refined sugar. The flagship Chocolate Chip SKU carries six ingredients — cashews, maple syrup, chocolate chips, vanilla extract, sea salt, and baking soda — and delivers 65 calories and 4 grams of sugar per cookie. The format is edible and bakeable, positioning it across snacking and home-baking occasions simultaneously.

Alongside the rebrand, the company is introducing a flat-pack format designed to simplify at-home baking. The Target launch features four SKUs: the core Chocolate Chip and three limited-edition holiday flavors — Gingerbread, Sugar Cookie, and Peppermint Bark — timed to peak seasonal demand in the refrigerated dough set. Doughy's existing retail footprint spans Whole Foods Market, Fresh Thyme Market, and Wegmans, giving the brand a multi-channel presence across premium natural and conventional grocery ahead of this expansion.

Why the Rebrand Matters

The refreshed visual identity is designed to sharpen shelf differentiation as Doughy scales beyond specialty retail into mainstream grocery formats. The better-for-you snack and refrigerated-dough categories have seen sustained trade interest, with clean-label formulations driving shelf resets across the refrigerated perimeter. For Doughy, positioning the rebrand alongside a Target debut — rather than after it — reflects a deliberate effort to build brand equity at the moment of broadest new-consumer exposure.

"When we started Doughy, we didn't want to make another version of cookie dough," said Ramey. "By starting with cashews and maple syrup instead of traditional flour, butter, and sugar, we created something entirely different, without sacrificing the incredible taste and nostalgia that make cookie dough so special."

The move mirrors a broader pattern in the better-for-you CPG segment, where brands that build credibility in premium natural channels — Erewhon, Whole Foods — use that proof point to unlock mass-retail partnerships. Investor-backed emerging brands have increasingly used this two-stage retail playbook to de-risk large-format launches. Whether Doughy can sustain velocity in a more price-sensitive Target environment will be a key performance indicator for its investor syndicate going into 2027.
