Ember Technologies has extended its Mug 3 lineup with a 16-ounce model priced at $159, the largest capacity ever offered in the brand's smart mug range and the first time that size has appeared outside its tumbler line. The launch comes just weeks after the third-generation Mug 3 debuted in 10-ounce and 14-ounce configurations.
The Product Details
The 16-ounce Mug 3 carries the full feature set introduced across the Mug 3 generation: on-mug temperature cycling via a bottom-mounted power button, five preset increments spanning 125 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit, and Bluetooth connectivity to the Ember companion app. A sliding lid is included in the box — a notable addition for spill prevention and heat retention. The company says the mug maintains a user-selected temperature for up to three hours on a single charge.
Ember overhauled materials and manufacturing across the entire Mug 3 range to achieve top-rack dishwasher compatibility, a durability upgrade from earlier generations. The design retains an FDA-compliant, ceramic-reinforced coating on both exterior and interior surfaces over a stainless steel body. The 16-ounce variant launches in black, with stainless steel and white colorways slated for November.
Retail and Market Context
The mug is available immediately at ember.com, Target — both in-store and online — and Amazon. The $159 retail price positions it at the upper end of the premium drinkware segment, a category that has drawn sustained consumer investment as at-home coffee and tea consumption remains well above pre-pandemic levels. For operators and retailers, temperature-controlled drinkware represents one of the higher-margin accessories in the beverage accessories aisle, with brand loyalty driven heavily by app ecosystems and repeat gifting cycles.
"A bigger Ember Mug has been on our customers' wish lists for years," said Matt Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Ember. He framed the 16-ounce Mug 3 as a home-and-office complement to the brand's recently launched Tumbler 2, which targets on-the-go use at the same 16-ounce capacity — effectively completing a two-product strategy across usage occasions.
The distinction matters for foodservice-adjacent retail: drinkware brands increasingly segment their assortments by occasion, pushing stationary mugs through home goods and office channels while directing portable formats toward convenience and sporting-goods retailers. Ember's dual-product approach mirrors similar moves by competitors in the premium insulated drinkware space. For category buyers and specialty beverage retailers, the expanded Mug 3 lineup broadens the brand's gifting and corporate-account proposition ahead of the holiday selling season. Publications covering the premium beverage accessories market, including Food & Beverage Magazine, have tracked growing consumer demand for smart drinkware as a complement to at-home espresso and pour-over investment.
