The Launch
Ferrara, the Chicago-based sugar confectioner with more than 115 years of operating history, is introducing a new 2.5-ounce, $1 Pocket Pack format across six of its heritage candy brands — Everlasting Gobstopper, Lemonhead, Bottle Caps, Jujyfruits, Red Hots and Runts. The format, which the company is calling Iconic Pocket Packs, is available now at select retailers and moves to nationwide distribution in September 2026.
The Strategic Play
The $1 price point is a deliberate positioning move in the impulse-purchase corridor, a segment that has drawn intensifying attention from confectionery manufacturers as inflationary pressure on household budgets has made value-anchored formats a meaningful traffic driver at checkout. For Ferrara, the Pocket Pack rollout represents an attempt to reactivate consumer engagement with brands whose retail presence has historically skewed toward larger, higher-ticket pack sizes — 4.5-ounce, 5-ounce, 10-ounce and 12-ounce formats remain in the portfolio alongside the new offering.
Greg Guidotti, Chief Marketing Officer of Ferrara Candy Company, framed the launch around nostalgia as a commercial lever. "These classic brands have had a lasting connection with consumers, and many have grown up enjoying them," Guidotti said. "Our new Iconic Pocket Packs give consumers a way to reconnect with the classic brands they've loved, now bringing them back in a new, fresh, convenient, and portable format to enjoy and share wherever they go."
What's Next
The six SKUs span a broad range of candy textures and flavor profiles — from the layered jawbreaker format of Everlasting Gobstopper to the chewy gummies of Jujyfruits, which have been in production since the 1940s, and the cinnamon hard candy of Red Hots, which dates back nearly a century. That breadth is a deliberate cross-merchandising asset: a single fixture display can capture multiple consumer flavor preferences without requiring a retailer to commit to separate brand placements.
For Ferrara, the Pocket Pack initiative also signals continued investment in the front-end confectionery category at a time when the U.S. sugar candy market faces both volume and pricing headwinds. The company — privately held and Ferrero-affiliated — operates across more than 30 facilities globally and distributes products under 40-plus brands to more than 60 countries. Its U.S. household penetration, anchored by brands such as NERDS, SweeTARTS and Brach's, gives it substantial shelf-negotiating leverage with national grocery and mass-market retailers ahead of the September rollout. Operators and buyers tracking confectionery category trends will find the $1 format relevant as convenience and dollar channels continue to outpace traditional grocery in impulse candy velocity. The product launch also intersects with broader retail merchandising strategies that prioritize accessible price points to maintain transaction frequency.
