The Promotion
Firehouse Subs is launching a limited-edition K-9 Crew plushie collection on October 28, priced at $9.95 each, with 100% of net profits — approximately $6.16 per unit before taxes — directed to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The three plush figures are modeled on real working dogs: Stone, a golden retriever search-and-rescue K-9 that responded to the Surfside condominium collapse; Ember, a Dalmatian serving the Sevierville, Tennessee fire department in a community education role; and Echo, a German shepherd that joined the Sartell, Minnesota police department in 2023 through a Foundation grant.
Fundraising Mechanics
The merchandise drop is exclusive to participating U.S. restaurant locations and is not available through the Firehouse Rewards app or third-party delivery platforms — a structure that prioritizes in-store traffic. Alongside the plushie sale, the chain is running a one-day Hook & Ladder fundraiser on October 28, donating 100% of the purchase price of its Hook & Ladder sub to the Foundation. The sandwich — smoked turkey breast, honey ham, and Monterey Jack cheese on a toasted roll — has been a menu staple since the brand's founding in 1994. The fundraiser applies to in-restaurant, app, and online purchases but excludes catering, third-party delivery, combos, and upsizes.
"Our K-9 Crew celebrates the remarkable four-legged heroes who serve alongside first responders every day, giving our guests a fun and meaningful way to recognize their service while supporting the communities they protect," said Mike Hancock, President of Firehouse Subs.
Foundation Context
The dual-channel approach — merchandise and a signature-menu day — reflects a fundraising model that Firehouse Subs has refined over two decades. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, established in 2005, has awarded more than $112 million in equipment and resources to first responders and public safety organizations across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The Foundation carries a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, and more than 70% of its funds are sourced directly from guest and restaurant-level giving, making high-traffic promotional moments like this one materially significant to its annual totals.
Firehouse Subs operates as a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International, which reported nearly $47 billion in annual system-wide sales across more than 33,000 restaurants in over 120 countries as of December 31, 2025. For quick-service operators in the restaurant and foodservice sector, cause-marketing activations tied to measurable giving figures have become a differentiated tool to drive in-store visits and brand affinity, particularly as consumer-facing loyalty programs face rising competition. The K-9 Crew launch also aligns with the growing trend of limited-run branded merchandise as a low-cost revenue and awareness mechanism for QSR chains.
Robin Peters, Executive Director of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, noted that K-9 Echo's placement at the Sartell Police Department was itself funded by a Foundation grant, illustrating how the organization's giving cycle directly connects to the animals featured in the collection.
