GEN Restaurant Group, the publicly traded Korean barbecue chain operator, has signed a distribution agreement with United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), the wholesale grocery distributor, according to a release dated June 10, 2026. Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.

The agreement positions UNFI as a key supply-chain partner for GEN as the company pursues expansion of its full-service restaurant portfolio. UNFI operates one of the largest wholesale distribution networks in North America, servicing more than 30,000 customer locations across the U.S. and Canada, according to the distributor's most recent annual filings. The partnership is expected to provide GEN with improved product sourcing consistency and logistics efficiency across its existing and future locations.

The deal arrives at a moment of heightened scrutiny on restaurant supply chains. Persistent food-cost inflation and protein-market volatility — particularly in beef, a core input for Korean BBQ formats — have pushed full-service operators to lock in more structured procurement relationships. For GEN, which depends heavily on high-quality meat cuts for its tabletop-grill concept, supply reliability is a direct driver of margin performance. Distribution agreements of this kind can also carry pricing advantages tied to volume commitments, though GEN did not specify whether the UNFI contract includes such provisions. Investors in the restaurant distribution and supply-chain space have increasingly viewed structured wholesale partnerships as a credit-positive signal for emerging chain operators.

GEN Restaurant Group has been expanding its domestic store count since its 2022 IPO, targeting both company-owned and franchised locations in high-density urban and suburban markets. The UNFI partnership could accelerate that buildout by reducing the operational complexity of sourcing across dispersed geographies. UNFI's existing relationships with specialty and ethnic-food suppliers may also support GEN's need for Korean-market pantry ingredients alongside its core protein requirements. Industry observers tracking full-service restaurant sector dynamics note that chains with fewer than 100 units often face disproportionate sourcing costs relative to larger peers — a gap that wholesale distribution agreements are designed to narrow.

Neither company provided forward guidance or volume targets in connection with the announcement. GEN is expected to report its next quarterly results in the coming weeks, at which point management may offer additional color on the strategic and financial implications of the UNFI arrangement.
