The Market Entry
Grenade, the UK's number-one selling protein brand, has officially entered the United States market, debuting four protein bar SKUs through GNC, The Vitamin Shoppe, Amazon, and Bodybuilding.com. The Austin-based launch targets a segment that NielsenIQ data shows is expanding at four times the rate of total protein snacks — currently the fastest-growing category in the U.S. snack market.
The debut lineup features bars with 20 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar per serving, including two OREO-licensed collaborations — OREO and OREO White — alongside additional flavors. Grenade frames the formulations as a response to the 85% of U.S. consumers who, according to the brand's cited data, report wanting to increase daily protein intake.
Retail and Athlete Strategy
The initial retail footprint spans specialty nutrition channels, with Grenade indicating plans to extend distribution into national convenience, grocery, and gym accounts over the coming months. The brand has also secured the Official Protein Bar sponsorship of Baller League, a six-a-side soccer competition that blends live sport with creator-economy entertainment — a channel increasingly used by nutrition brands to reach younger, digitally native consumers.
To underpin U.S. credibility, Grenade has contracted a roster of performance athletes: five-time CrossFit Games competitor Arielle Loewen, UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall, 2026 CrossFit Women's Champion Aimee Cringle, and Alabama A&M football player Cornelious "DIME" Brown IV. The mix of combat sports, functional fitness, and collegiate athletics reflects a deliberate effort to reach multiple active-lifestyle segments simultaneously.
Why It Matters for Operators
Founded in 2010 by Alan and Juliet Barratt, Grenade built its European position by repositioning protein bars from a utilitarian supplement-aisle product into a mainstream confectionery-adjacent snack. That repositioning — flavor parity with traditional candy bars at a better macro profile — has become the dominant competitive frame across the category, now replicated by challengers and incumbents alike. Grenade's entry intensifies pressure on established U.S. players in the sports-nutrition and better-for-you snack space at a moment when shelf space in specialty retail is already contested.
The brand will activate at Olympia Las Vegas this year and run sampling programs at gyms and college campuses — a ground-level trial strategy aligned with how premium protein snack brands have historically seeded U.S. consumer bases before pursuing broader grocery distribution.
"We know today's consumers want products that deliver on both taste and function, and that's exactly what Grenade was built for," said Alan Barratt, co-founder of Grenade. "We're excited to bring more consumers the bold flavors, high-protein nutrition and unapologetic attitude that have made Grenade a favorite with fans around the world."
Grenade's product portfolio extends beyond bars into protein powders, pre-workouts, supplements, and weight management formulas, suggesting the U.S. market entry could broaden into additional categories as the brand establishes consumer recognition.
