Ready-to-drink coffee brand happy® is releasing eight limited-edition collector cans tied to Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Doomsday," co-founder Robert Downey Jr. announced Wednesday, marking one of the more high-profile entertainment crossovers in the RTD coffee segment this year. The cans roll out across major national retailers ahead of the film's December 18, 2026 theatrical debut.

The Product Line

The collector's series spans four SKUs drawn from happy's existing RTD portfolio: classic cold brew, Tahitian vanilla cold brew, vanilla latte, and chocolatey chip latte. Each of the eight 11-ounce cans features a distinct Marvel Cinematic Universe character — Black Panther, Captain America, Gambit, Mister Fantastic, Mystique, The Thing, Thor, and Doctor Doom — rendered in high-resolution tactile graphics. Downey portrays Doctor Doom in the film, giving the brand a direct on-screen hook that few co-branded beverage campaigns can claim.

Retail Footprint

Distribution spans a broad swath of conventional and specialty grocery, including all Albertsons banners, Kroger stores, HEB, Raley's Supermarkets, and Schnucks, alongside mass and drug channels through select CVS and Target locations. The lineup is also available on Amazon and at convenience and specialty outlets including Sheets and pOpshelf. Availability and specific can designs will vary by retailer — a common lever brands use to drive channel-exclusive collectibility and incremental trial.

Holly Frank, VP of Global Marketing Partnerships & Promotions at Disney, framed the tie-in as a consumer engagement play. "As fans gear up to see 'Avengers: Doomsday' in theaters, happy is giving them a fun way to get charged up and ready for their next adventure," Frank said.

Why It Matters

Entertainment co-branded packaging has become a reliable traffic driver for RTD beverage brands competing for shelf visibility in a crowded cold-case set. For happy, whose co-founder Craig Dubitsky built his reputation on design-forward consumer products, the collaboration leans into the brand's core positioning around packaging as an experiential differentiator. "A company called happy collaborating with a movie called Doomsday felt too perfect to pass up," Dubitsky said, adding that the company views coffee as its "first delivery system" with additional product categories planned.

The RTD coffee market has seen sustained category growth as consumers trade out of traditional hot-brew occasions, and limited-edition collector formats have proven effective at converting passive shoppers into repeat purchasers — a dynamic well-documented in the energy drink and functional beverage space. For happy, which also maintains a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Marvel collaboration broadens its retail presence at a moment when challenger RTD brands are working to close distribution gaps against entrenched players.

The launch also reflects a wider push by studios to activate consumer packaged goods partnerships earlier in a film's promotional cycle, generating earned media and retail presence weeks before theatrical release — a strategy increasingly tracked in food and beverage licensing and co-branding coverage.
