The Expansion

HexClad is entering the Italian market, the Los Angeles-based premium cookware brand announced on September 8, pairing the geographic push with the addition of Osteria Francescana chef Massimo Bottura to its Global Culinary Council and a three-year global partnership with Bottura's nonprofit, Food for Soul. The moves represent the brand's most significant European growth signal since it pioneered the hybrid cookware category in 2016.

Strategic Logic

Italy's outsized cultural weight in food, craftsmanship, and hospitality makes it a logical staging ground for a brand competing at the premium end of the cookware market. HexClad already holds commercial positions across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, and the Italian launch deepens a European footprint that has grown steadily alongside the brand's direct-to-consumer channel. The company has appeared on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private U.S. companies for three consecutive years, 2023 through 2025, underscoring the pace of its underlying expansion.

Bottura brings rare credibility in precisely the market HexClad is entering. His Modena flagship, Osteria Francescana, earned three MICHELIN Stars in 2012 and topped The World's 50 Best Restaurants list in both 2016 and 2018. His Francescana Family now spans restaurants in Italy, Singapore, Miami, Tokyo, and Seoul, giving him a global platform that maps closely onto HexClad's own geographic ambitions. He joins a Culinary Council that already includes Gordon Ramsay — a brand investor — alongside Dominique Crenn, Nancy Silverton, Clare Smyth, and Paul Ainsworth.

"HexClad shares my belief that the kitchen should be a place for creativity, curiosity and pushing boundaries," Bottura said in the announcement. Daniel Winer, CEO and Co-Founder of HexClad, framed the appointment as a defining brand moment, describing Bottura's "pursuit of excellence, creativity and purpose" as directly aligned with the company's identity.

The Nonprofit Angle

The Food for Soul partnership adds a sustainability and social-impact dimension that is increasingly table stakes for premium consumer brands targeting European markets. Food for Soul, co-founded in 2015 by Bottura and his wife Lara Gilmore, operates Refettorio community kitchens that convert surplus food into restaurant-quality meals, combining food-waste reduction with social-inclusion programming. Under the three-year agreement, HexClad will supply Refettorio kitchens with cookware, provide financial backing, and mobilize its chef network for volunteer and fundraising initiatives.

"Together, we'll strengthen our Refettorio communities while inspiring a more thoughtful and sustainable approach to cooking," said Gilmore, Founder and President of Food for Soul. For HexClad, the arrangement delivers tangible CSR infrastructure at the moment of a high-profile market entry — a useful counter-narrative to the premium pricing that defines the brand's positioning.

The Italian launch is also a test of how far HexClad can extend the chef-partnership playbook — refined through years of collaboration with Ramsay — into new geographies. For operators and foodservice equipment buyers tracking the premium cookware segment, the Bottura alignment signals that HexClad intends to compete not just on product performance but on culinary cultural authority. Category watchers covering food and beverage retail trends will note that the direct-to-consumer and strategic-retail model travels with the brand into each new market.
