Ingredion Incorporated has acquired Benicaros, a prebiotic dietary fiber derived from upcycled carrots that is clinically shown to support immune and gut health at unusually low daily intake levels, the company announced Monday. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Benicaros distinguishes itself within the fast-growing functional fiber segment by delivering measurable immune-support benefits at a low dosage threshold, a characteristic that lowers the formulation burden for food, beverage, and supplement manufacturers. The ingredient is produced through an upcycling process that recovers bioactive carbohydrates from carrot processing streams, positioning it squarely within the broader industry push toward reduced-waste ingredient sourcing.

The acquisition expands Ingredion's specialty and functional ingredients portfolio at a moment when consumer demand for gut-health and immunity-positioned products continues to outpace the broader packaged-food market. According to data tracked by Food & Beverage Magazine, immunity and digestive-health claims have ranked among the fastest-growing label attributes across new product launches for three consecutive years. Ingredion's move signals that large ingredient suppliers are willing to pay for clinical differentiation rather than commodity fiber supply.

For Ingredion, whose specialty ingredients segment has been a strategic growth priority, Benicaros adds a defensible, science-backed asset that can be licensed across multiple product categories — from fortified beverages and dairy alternatives to snack bars and dietary supplements. The low-dose efficacy profile is particularly relevant for beverage applications, where high fiber loads can compromise texture and palatability.

The upcycled sourcing story also strengthens Ingredion's sustainability credentials at a time when supply-chain transparency and circular-economy credentials are increasingly weighted in retailer and brand-partner procurement decisions. Carrot-derived upcycled ingredients carry a traceable agricultural origin that aligns with clean-label positioning, a dynamic that premium private-label and better-for-you brands are actively seeking.

Ingredin did not provide revenue projections for the Benicaros asset or update full-year financial guidance in connection with the announcement.
