The Deal
Instacart (Nasdaq: CART) has been named the exclusive same-day delivery partner for Petsense by Tractor Supply, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tractor Supply Company (Nasdaq: TSCO), the companies announced Monday. Shoppers can now order from Petsense's full assortment of specialty pet food and supplies through the Instacart app or website, with delivery available in as little as one hour and no price markups applied at checkout.
Scale and Reach
The partnership adds Petsense's 209 stores across 23 states to the Instacart Marketplace, which now counts more than 2,200 national and local retail banners representing nearly 100,000 locations. Petsense skews toward small and mid-size communities — a footprint that broadens Instacart's reach beyond the dense urban and suburban corridors typically associated with on-demand grocery delivery. The chain carries boutique and specialty brands including Fromm, Orijen, Acana, Purina Pro Plan, Hill's Science Diet, Victor, Royal Canin, and NutriSource, several of which are exclusive to Petsense stores.
The pet food and supplies segment has been among the more resilient corners of consumer spending in recent years, with owners increasingly treating companion animal nutrition with the same scrutiny applied to human food. That premiumisation trend has benefited specialty retailers capable of stocking high-protein, limited-ingredient, and veterinary-grade diets — categories where Petsense competes against national chains and direct-to-consumer subscription services alike. Integrating those SKUs into a same-day fulfillment channel addresses a growing consumer expectation that specialty goods arrive as quickly as everyday grocery staples. For Instacart, the pact extends its foodservice and retail adjacency strategy into the pet specialty retail corridor, deepening its relevance to household shopping beyond the grocery basket.
Promotional Launch
"By partnering with Instacart to offer same-day delivery, customers can now receive our top-quality assortment of pet food and supplies in as little as an hour," said Shawn Blankenship, Vice President of Petsense by Tractor Supply. Blake Wallace, Vice President of Commercial Partnerships at Instacart, described the tie-up as making it "easier than ever for customers to get the specialty products their pets love, whenever they need them."
To mark the launch, Instacart is offering $10 off a first qualifying Petsense order of $50 or more through September 30, 2026. The promotional structure mirrors introductory incentives Instacart has deployed across recent retail marketplace partnerships, designed to convert new category shoppers into recurring platform users. Exclusivity in the same-day channel gives Petsense a differentiated fulfilment proposition as Tractor Supply continues to invest in its subsidiary's omnichannel capabilities.
