A New Single-Serve Format
Lavazza North America has formally launched Tablì in the United States, positioning what it calls the world's first single-serve 100% coffee tab system as a premium challenger in an already crowded at-home coffee appliance market. The machine retails at $129.99 and is currently available on LavazzaUSA.com, with Amazon distribution scheduled for later this month.
The launch follows an accelerated pre-order run in June and July that the Turin-based group described as exceeding all internal projections. Five separate drop windows were opened after initial stock cleared; Daniele Foti, VP of Marketing at Lavazza North America, noted that the fastest single drop sold out in under an hour. That demand signal, while unaudited, offers an early indicator of consumer appetite for a format that has no direct equivalent in the US single-serve category — a segment dominated by capsule and pod systems from Keurig Dr Pepper and Nestlé.
The Product and Pricing
The Tablì tab is compressed from precisely ground and tamped coffee into a solid puck — containing no plastic, paper, or additives — with a concave geometry designed to allow expansion during extraction. The machine, which Lavazza developed over five years and protected with more than 15 patents, is available in three colorways: Graphite Black, Sand White, and Walnut Brown.
Tab pricing runs from $48.00 for 48-count packs of Super Crema, Espresso, and Decaf blends, to $52.80 per 48-count for Espresso Lungo and Espresso Double. A 60-count Variety Collection is priced at $60.00, and a 12-tab entry box starts at $12.49. Bundle configurations anchor the commercial pitch: the machine paired with the Variety Collection retails at $169.99, a machine-and-frother bundle at $199.99, and an all-in-one package including frother and Variety Collection at $249.99. For the broader foodservice and specialty retail trade, the tiered bundle architecture signals Lavazza's intention to establish Tablì as a gifting and household-trial vehicle as it expands distribution.
Market Context and Outlook
The US single-serve coffee appliance market has historically been segmented between convenience-first pod platforms and premium manual-espresso equipment, leaving a structural gap for a format that claims barista-quality output with capsule-level ease. Lavazza — a group with annual revenue exceeding €3.9 billion and operations across 140 markets — is wagering that Tablì can occupy that middle ground and accelerate its US retail footprint, which has lagged its European and foodservice presence.
The company is backing the launch with a national media campaign anchored by a brand film called Coffee Factory, running across connected TV and streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, Roku, YouTube, and Peacock. Broader retail distribution beyond LavazzaUSA.com and Amazon has not been announced, though Foti indicated channel expansion would continue throughout the year. For trade buyers and category managers in grocery and specialty retail, the velocity data from the initial Amazon rollout will likely serve as the first measurable proof point for whether Tablì can sustain launch-window momentum at scale.
