Lightspeed Commerce Inc. (NYSE: LSPD) (TSX: LSPD) has launched a native integration between its Lightspeed Retail point-of-sale platform and Meta's Conversions API, giving brick-and-mortar merchants — including food retailers, specialty grocery operators, and hospitality businesses — a direct channel to pass in-store transaction signals into Meta's ad-measurement infrastructure.

The announcement, made July 24, addresses a long-standing blind spot for physical-format retailers: digital advertising on Facebook and Instagram has historically influenced foot traffic and in-store purchase decisions, yet campaign optimization defaulted to online actions such as clicks or website visits. In-store sales were largely invisible to ad algorithms, leaving return-on-ad-spend calculations incomplete.

How the Integration Works

Once enabled, Lightspeed with Meta Conversions API automatically syncs a merchant's in-store product catalog to Meta and routes POS transaction data server-side to Meta's Conversions API — no spreadsheet exports, no manual uploads. For food-retail and foodservice operators that run offline-only stores, the system creates an offline catalog, meaning an ecommerce presence is not a prerequisite. Omnichannel merchants gain a unified performance view, with in-store revenue flowing alongside online conversion data so Meta's AI can optimize campaigns against cross-channel results.

"Retailers have always known that online ads influence what happens inside their stores, but they didn't necessarily have a clear way to measure it," said Dax Dasilva, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lightspeed. "We're giving brick-and-mortar merchants access to attribution and advertising intelligence that was once reserved for large ecommerce players."

Why Food Retail Operators Should Take Note

For independent food retailers, specialty grocers, and restaurant-adjacent retail — a segment increasingly reliant on local social-media advertising to compete with national chains — the integration removes a meaningful measurement gap. Campaigns promoting seasonal inventory, limited-run products, or in-store events could now be evaluated against actual sales outcomes rather than proxy metrics. That shift has direct implications for how operators inside these categories allocate marketing budgets and justify spend to ownership groups or investors.

The broader context is significant. Physical retail's share of total commerce remains dominant, yet digital ad platforms have historically over-indexed on ecommerce signals. Moves to bridge that gap — through offline conversion APIs, loyalty-data partnerships, and POS integrations — have accelerated across the sector, as covered in our reporting on retail technology investment trends and the omnichannel pivot reshaping foodservice operators.

Lightspeed, which operates its platform across more than 100 countries and serves retail, golf, and hospitality verticals, said the integration is built to Meta's latest technical standards and is one of the first solutions designed to give physical-store merchants a continuous, server-side connection between POS data and Meta advertising. It is available now for all Lightspeed Retail customers.
