Luxardo, the Italian liqueur and maraschino cherry producer with more than two centuries of heritage, has launched Luxardo Decaf Espresso Liqueur in the United States — a product the company is billing as a category first in the global spirits market. The release is exclusive to the U.S. and is distributed through Hotaling & Co., Luxardo's American import partner.
The product replicates the flavor profile of the brand's existing espresso liqueur while removing caffeine, a formulation change the company says is designed to extend viable consumption occasions into daytime and late-night windows that would otherwise deter caffeine-sensitive consumers. No pricing or volume targets were disclosed in connection with the launch.
The move arrives as the espresso martini continues to rank among the most ordered cocktails in U.S. on-premise venues, a trend that has drawn multiple spirits producers into the coffee liqueur segment over the past three years. The espresso cocktail boom has reshaped bar program economics, lifting demand for both premium coffee liqueurs and ready-to-serve formats. Luxardo's decaf entry positions the brand to capture consumers who have self-selected out of the occasion due to stimulant sensitivity — a cohort that spans older demographics, pregnant consumers, and those observing evening caffeine cut-offs.
The innovation also reflects a broader premiumization and occasion-extension dynamic playing out across the better-for-you spirits and liqueur segment, where producers are increasingly engineering products around lifestyle constraints rather than purely around flavor differentiation. Decaffeinated coffee itself has posted consistent volume gains in retail over the past five years as health-conscious consumption patterns have migrated from grocery into the bar.
Founded in Torreglia, Italy in 1821, Luxardo is best known globally for its Maraschino liqueur and its branded maraschino cherries, which have become a staple garnish across the craft cocktail segment. The company's U.S. distribution partnership with San Francisco-based Hotaling & Co. has underpinned its American on-premise and off-premise expansion. No financial terms of the distribution arrangement were disclosed. A representative from Luxardo was not immediately available to provide forward guidance on distribution targets or launch market rollout sequencing.
