Mars Petcare's Temptations brand is staging a three-day immersive retail pop-up in Lower Manhattan beginning Sept. 17, deploying experiential marketing to reinforce its position as the top-selling cat treat line in the United States, a rank it holds based on 2025 Nielsen sales data. The activation, dubbed the TEMPTATIONS Cat Bodega, occupies a storefront at 213 Bowery and runs daily from noon to 6 p.m. ET through Sept. 19, distributing free product samples and branded merchandise.

The Activation Structure

The pop-up is designed around the cultural archetype of the New York City bodega and the shop cats associated with it — a consumer touchpoint the brand is leveraging to deepen emotional affinity with cat owners. Visitors can sample Classic Treats and Lickable Puree SKUs, engage with claw-machine and scratch-off prize mechanics, and interact with an in-store set built around cat-centric theming. Mars tapped comedian and actress Heidi Gardner as a celebrity partner for the event; Gardner, a self-described cat owner, is being used to extend the campaign's social media reach.

"The magic of a true NYC bodega is that it's the only place on earth where you can buy an iced coffee, long-stem roses, and cat treats all in one stop," said Gardner. "The TEMPTATIONS Cat Bodega has nailed the hometown energy, but this time, the bodega cat gets to be the total center of attention."

National Digital Extension

To broaden reach beyond the physical footprint, Mars is running a parallel virtual Cat Bodega from Sept. 17 through Sept. 26 at TemptationsTreats.com/CatBodega. Participants can enter a digital scratch-off game for treats and merchandise prizes and can nominally "gift" treats to working cats at shops and venues across the country — a mechanic designed to generate repeat daily engagement over the promotional window.

Lukasz Wysoczanski, Vice President, Care and Treats, Mars Pet Nutrition North America, framed the spend as a brand-equity investment: "The TEMPTATIONS Cat Bodega is a homage to these hard-working cats and a way for fans to celebrate them for the stars they are." The company declined to disclose the budget for the campaign.

Market Context

The pet treat segment has been one of the more resilient categories within packaged consumer goods as broader grocery volumes have come under pressure from price sensitivity. Premium and functional pet food and treat SKUs have continued to attract household spending even as consumers trade down in other center-store categories, a dynamic Mars Pet Nutrition has cited in prior investor commentary. Experiential activations of this kind — free sampling combined with prize mechanics and social amplification — are increasingly common among category leaders looking to defend shelf share against private-label and challenger brands that have expanded distribution in the pet specialty and mass channels.
