The Expansion
Neutonic, the Austin-based productivity drink brand co-founded by Modern Wisdom podcast host Chris Williamson and UK fitness entrepreneur James Smith, is rolling into nearly 1,000 Walmart stores beginning October 3, 2026 — the brand's largest single retail placement since its 2023 launch. The move seats Neutonic inside Walmart's newly created Mood & Mind beverage set, a dedicated shelf fixture the mass retailer is building to capture growing shopper demand for functional drinks targeting focus, relaxation and cognitive performance.
Pricing & Format
The Walmart rollout introduces two firsts for Neutonic: a refreshed can design and a four-pack format, exclusive to the retailer. Singles will carry a $2.97 price point; four-packs will retail at $9.96. Four-pack SKUs will be available in Blue Raspberry, Tropical Ice, Strawberry Lemonade and Wild Citrus, plus a Tropical Ice/Strawberry Lemonade variety pack. Both refrigerated and shelf-stable single-serve formats will also be stocked. The products will be available simultaneously in-store and online at Walmart.com.
The drink's formula centres on 120 milligrams of natural caffeine paired with Cognizin® Citicoline, L-Theanine, Alpha GPC and Panax Ginseng — all in a zero-sugar base the brand positions around sustained daily productivity rather than acute energy spikes.
Why It Matters
Walmart's decision to carve out a discrete Mood & Mind set signals a structural shift in how the world's largest retailer is merchandising the functional beverage aisle. Brian Salmon, Vice President of Beverage at Walmart U.S., framed the partnership in terms of category newness: "We're excited to welcome them to our new Mood & Mind set and appreciate the collaboration to bring even more newness to Walmart customers, including exclusive four-pack options." The set is expected to aggregate emerging brands across mood, relaxation, social and cognitive need states — a merchandising architecture that mirrors similar moves by specialty and grocery retailers experimenting with functional beverage shelf resets.
For Neutonic, Walmart access represents a significant leap in distribution velocity. The brand has previously built its U.S. presence through direct-to-consumer and specialty fitness retail channels, and a nearly 1,000-door mass-market placement compresses years of conventional field-sales roll-out into a single launch event. Chris Williamson, Co-Founder of Neutonic, noted that retail has already been a meaningful growth driver: "This expansion allows us to build on that momentum and is a significant step in scaling Neutonic's distribution across the U.S."
The functional beverage segment — which Food & Beverage Magazine has tracked as one of the fastest-growing categories in North American grocery — continues to attract challenger brands leveraging creator-economy audiences as a cost-efficient alternative to traditional media spend. Williamson's Modern Wisdom podcast, currently ranked No. 8 globally on Spotify with more than one billion streams, gives Neutonic an organic promotional channel that few emerging beverage brands can replicate, reducing the paid-marketing burden typically required to justify a mass-market launch at this scale.
