NuLiv Science has introduced CordycepsPrime™ Beverage Grade, a micronized form of its liquid-fermented Cordyceps sinensis ingredient engineered specifically for ready-to-drink beverages, functional shots, mushroom coffees, and shake formats — product categories that have historically struggled to incorporate whole-mushroom or mycelium powders at commercial scale.

The Formulation Problem

Standard functional mushroom powders do not dissolve in liquid. Particles settle rapidly, producing visible sediment and perceptible grit that make finished beverages difficult to market to retail buyers and consumers alike. Formulators working in the fast-growing functional beverage segment have typically faced three imperfect options: blend in a maltodextrin-cut extract that dilutes potency, omit the ingredient entirely, or accept settlement and instruct consumers to shake. None of those workarounds is ideal for premium positioning.

CordycepsPrime™ Beverage Grade addresses the problem at the particle level. NuLiv mills the ingredient to an average particle size of 20 microns — fine enough that individual particles are invisible to the naked eye — so the powder disperses into liquid, settles measurably more slowly than conventional mushroom powder, and re-disperses with light agitation rather than vigorous shaking. The result, the company says, is a finished beverage that requires no reformulation workarounds and carries no perceptible texture.

Spec and Supply Details

The new grade is compositionally identical to NuLiv Science's existing CordycepsPrime standard grade, differing only in mesh size. It is standardized to 8% cordycepic acid — the accepted biomarker for Cordyceps sinensis — to ensure consistency across production batches, a requirement that matters to co-manufacturers and quality-assurance teams managing high-volume beverage runs. The ingredient is composed of pure fermented mycelium with no residual substrate and carries Organic, Kosher, Halal, and Gluten Free certifications, broadening its addressable market across diet-restricted and specialty retail channels.

NuLiv traces its cordyceps fermentation process to 1997, when its founders patented an early liquid-fermented Cordyceps sinensis ingredient — a lineage the company argues gives it a process-quality advantage over newer entrants in the functional mushroom supply chain. The beverage grade is being offered as a selectable option at the quote stage, alongside the existing standard and standard organic grades, meaning brand customers can specify it without entering a separate procurement track.

Market Backdrop

The timing aligns with sustained momentum in the functional mushroom ingredients market, where retail shelf space for adaptogen-forward RTD beverages, mushroom coffee blends, and nootropic shots has expanded materially over the past three years. Category growth has drawn investment from major beverage incubators and increased competition among ingredient suppliers for formulator relationships. For NuLiv, the beverage grade opens distribution into liquid formats that were previously closed to its flagship ingredient without significant reformulation.

"CordycepsPrime launched our company back in 1997, so it's a little personal for us," said Richard Wang, Chief Executive Officer of NuLiv Science. "Cordyceps has always been tough to get into a drink without too much settling, and cracking the beverage grade opens up a whole new market. Same high quality we've had for nearly thirty years, now in a format beverage brands can actually use."
