Zurich-based precision agtech company OneSoil has entered a partnership with Polish climate-tech startup Rainbow Weather to deploy hyperlocal, AI-powered rainfall forecasting tools aimed at farmers globally, the companies announced 4 June 2026. The collaboration targets one of the most economically damaging pressure points in modern agriculture: unpredictable and intensifying precipitation events driven by climate change.

Extreme weather already costs European Union farmers approximately €28 billion every year, equivalent to around 6% of total agricultural production, according to EU data cited by Reuters. Globally, the frequency of extreme rainfall events has risen sharply since the early 2000s, contributing to delayed planting seasons, waterlogged fields, and lost crop yields that cascade through food supply chains and commodity markets.

By combining OneSoil's precision agriculture platform — which aggregates satellite imagery, soil data, and field-level analytics — with Rainbow Weather's high-resolution meteorological modelling, the partners aim to give growers actionable, field-specific precipitation outlooks rather than the broader regional forecasts currently available through conventional services. Improved forecast granularity can allow operators to optimise input timing, reduce waste, and protect margins during volatile growing seasons.

The tie-up reflects a broader consolidation of agtech and climate-intelligence capabilities as food producers and agribusinesses seek to hedge against weather-related earnings volatility. Investors have directed increasing capital toward precision agtech platforms that can demonstrate measurable yield protection, with the sector drawing significant M&A and venture activity over the past two years. Hyperlocal forecasting also intersects with supply-chain resilience strategies increasingly adopted by large food and beverage manufacturers sourcing raw commodities.

Financial terms of the OneSoil–Rainbow Weather partnership were not disclosed. Both companies indicated the integrated forecasting capability will be rolled out to farmers across multiple geographies, though specific launch markets and a commercial timeline were not detailed in the announcement.
