The Overhaul
Panera Bread has replaced its legacy loyalty framework with a points-based MyPanera program, rolling out nationwide on August 19 to a member base of more than 70 million — one of the largest in fast-casual foodservice. The redesign, which the company is positioning as part of its broader RISE transformation strategy, shifts from an opaque reward-surprise model to a transparent earn-and-redeem structure that members can track and direct themselves.
Under the new mechanics, guests earn 10 points for every $1 spent. Redemption thresholds begin at 250 points for a free bagel or mini bakery treat and scale to 2,000 points for a full entrée of the member's choosing. The operator is framing the flexibility as a direct response to member feedback calling for greater transparency and personalisation in the restaurant loyalty category.
Tier Structure and Spend Thresholds
The program introduces three membership tiers. The base MyPanera tier is free to join via the Panera app. MyPanera+ unlocks for members who reach $300 in calendar-year spend, adding a free birthday You Pick Two and bonus points on delivery orders — a feature designed to shore up margins on the third-party and direct delivery channel. The MyPanera+ Sip Club subscription sits at the top tier, bundling all MyPanera+ benefits with access to up to 30 select beverages per month, plus exclusive Saturday offers.
The Sip Club architecture is notable from an operator economics standpoint: subscription-based beverage programs create predictable recurring revenue and drive visit frequency, a dynamic that quick-service and fast-casual operators have increasingly pursued as traffic growth has moderated across the segment. Panera, which operates 2,251 bakery-cafes across 48 states, Washington D.C., and Ontario, Canada under the Panera Bread and Saint Louis Bread Co. banners, is part of Panera Brands alongside Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagels.
Launch Incentive and Campaign
To seed adoption, Panera is offering 500 bonus points to new and existing members on their first qualifying purchase between August 19 and September 1 — redeemable for a free Energy Refresher or Fresca. A new limited-access product, the Tropical Mango Pineapple Energy Refresher, is also launching exclusively through the app in conjunction with the program rollout, a move intended to drive digital channel engagement.
Panera has engaged entertainer Keke Palmer for a campaign called "Refreshingly Loyal" that uses humor to reframe the loyalty conversation for a consumer audience. The marketing strategy mirrors a broader industry pattern in which restaurant brands have turned to celebrity partnerships and culturally resonant creative to re-engage loyalty program members amid saturation across the category.
"Now, MyPanera is truly living into its name by giving our guests rewards that are flexible, tailored and highly personalized to their preferences," said Joshua Fine, Chief Digital Officer, Panera Bread. Fine noted the redesign was built around member demand for more transparency and better redemption choice.
