RXBAR, the Mars Snacking protein-bar brand, is breaking a four-year pause on seasonal innovation with the launch of Nut Butter & Oat Apple Pie, a limited-edition bar hitting retailers nationwide this August alongside the annual return of its Pumpkin Spice 12g Protein Bar.

The Numbers

The Apple Pie SKU carries a suggested retail price of $2.79 for a single bar and $11.99 for a five-count box — matching the price points of the returning Pumpkin Spice offering. The new bar delivers 10 grams of protein per serving and is positioned as a good source of fiber, built on the existing Nut Butter & Oat platform that already spans Honey Cinnamon Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter and Blueberry Cashew Butter. The Pumpkin Spice bar, a fixture in the lineup since 2015, provides 12 grams of protein per serving. Both flavors are available while supplies last.

Why It Matters

The launch reflects a deliberate bet on apple as a rising challenger to pumpkin spice in the fall flavor calendar. Industry reporting has flagged apple-forward profiles as among the fastest-growing seasonal flavor trends in the snack and bakery segments — a dynamic Mars Snacking is moving to capture with a format that sits at the intersection of the protein-bar and better-for-you snacking categories. For convenience and mass-channel retailers stocking seasonal sets, the dual-SKU drop gives RXBAR incremental facings during the high-velocity August-through-October window without requiring a full planogram reset.

"Certain flavors have the power to instantly transport us, bringing back memories of gathering in the kitchen, sharing homemade desserts and embracing everything we love about fall," said Regina Cabrera, Senior Brand Manager at Mars Snacking. "We set out to capture that sense of warmth and nostalgia in satisfying snacking options made with simple, recognizable ingredients."

Competitive Context

The protein-bar segment has become increasingly contested on seasonal and limited-time-offer mechanics, with brands using LTOs to maintain shelf relevance and drive trial outside of their core assortment. RXBAR's four-year gap in new seasonal SKUs had left its fall lineup largely static while competitors iterated more frequently. The Apple Pie addition also signals a product-line strategy: by introducing the flavor within the Nut Butter & Oat sub-line — made with whole grain oats, cashews, egg whites and wildflower honey — rather than the original bar format, Mars Snacking is using the seasonal vehicle to build awareness for a newer product architecture. Mars Snacking's broader portfolio management across snack bars will likely be watched for further LTO cadence changes heading into the 2027 seasonal cycle.

Both bars are available at retailers nationwide for a limited time.
