The J.M. Smucker Co. has appointed Douglas Guilherme as Senior Vice President, Operations and Supply Chain, effective July 29, filling a senior leadership post that will shape how the Orrville, Ohio-based food and beverage group manages production and logistics across its broad portfolio of consumer brands.

Guilherme reports to Rob Ferguson, Chief Product Supply Officer and Executive Vice President, Coffee, Pet, and Away From Home. The hire signals Smucker's continued investment in supply chain capability at a moment when packaged-food operators across the grocery and foodservice sectors are competing to lock in resilient sourcing and distribution networks.

The Executive's Track Record

Guilherme brings more than 30 years of global supply chain and operations experience spanning consumer goods, food, and chemicals. He joins from The Hershey Company, where as Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain he held responsibility for manufacturing, engineering, continuous improvement, planning, logistics, digital supply chain transformation, and network strategy — a scope that maps closely to Smucker's multi-category manufacturing footprint.

Before Hershey, Guilherme held senior supply chain roles at Procter & Gamble and served as Global Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at Ecolab, the water, hygiene, and infection-prevention company. That cross-industry depth — spanning food, personal care, and industrial services — underscores Smucker's stated priority of operational and supply chain excellence across its enterprise, not just within a single category.

Why the Appointment Matters

Smucker operates a notably diverse manufacturing and distribution network. Its portfolio spans roast-and-ground and single-serve coffee (Folgers, Dunkin', Café Bustelo), ambient grocery staples (Jif, Smucker's), frozen handheld foods (Uncrustables), sweet baked goods (Hostess), and pet nutrition (Milk-Bone, Meow Mix). Coordinating supply chains across ambient, frozen, and pet categories — each with distinct cold-chain, shelf-life, and retailer-compliance requirements — demands exactly the kind of multi-sector operational fluency Guilherme's résumé reflects.

The appointment also arrives as Smucker, like its packaged-food peers navigating cost inflation, faces ongoing pressure to improve gross margins through manufacturing efficiency and logistics optimization. A seasoned executive capable of driving digital supply chain transformation — a competency Guilherme demonstrated at Hershey — could accelerate those initiatives.

"Douglas brings a strong track record of delivering results and driving transformation while fostering high-performing teams and a culture of continuous improvement," said Ferguson. "I am confident he will be an outstanding steward of our commitments to quality, productivity and supporting our dedicated employees."

Smucker trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SJM. The company's portfolio, which includes brands covered by Food & Beverage Magazine across multiple consumer segments, positions it as one of the larger diversified food manufacturers in North America.
