The Launch
Superbrewed Food, Inc. has commercially launched Thryvia, a shelf-stable, protein-derived postbiotic ingredient designed to give brand owners a differentiated platform for digestive and immune health positioning across supplements, functional foods, beverages, and pet nutrition. The ingredient is available now and is manufactured at commercial scale through an undisclosed production partnership.
The Science Behind It
Thryvia is produced from heat-killed, non-viable Clostridium tyrobutyricum (strain ASM19) and holds a "No Questions" letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under GRAS Notice GRN 1129, clearing a meaningful regulatory milestone for prospective brand partners. Third-party preclinical studies cited by the company demonstrate selective activation of pattern-recognition receptors TLR2, TLR5, and NOD2 — pathways linked to gut-barrier and immune-response modulation. A completed four-week consumer perception study found self-reported improvements across multiple measures of digestive comfort; additional human trials are described as ongoing.
Because Thryvia is non-viable, it sidesteps the cold-chain and viability-management requirements that complicate live-probiotic formulations. The company says the ingredient is shelf-stable at room temperature and compatible with UHT-processed formats, gummies, powders, bars, and capsules — a technical flexibility that meaningfully expands the addressable product landscape for ingredient buyers. At a typical inclusion rate of approximately 200 mg per serving, input costs per finished unit should remain manageable relative to premium probiotic alternatives.
Industry Context
The postbiotic category has attracted intensifying attention from ingredient suppliers and finished-goods brands alike as consumers increasingly seek gut-health benefits in mainstream food and beverage formats rather than traditional supplement aisles. Unlike probiotics, postbiotics — defined by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics as "preparations of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that confer a health benefit on the host" — remove the refrigeration and survival-rate constraints that have historically limited probiotic expansion into shelf-stable grocery and foodservice channels. The timing positions Superbrewed Food to compete in a segment where differentiation on both science and supply-chain readiness increasingly determines commercial traction.
To accelerate Thryvia's market development, Superbrewed Food has recruited Michael Bush as Co-Chairman of the Board. Bush previously served as President and CEO of Ganeden, where he led commercialization of the BC30 probiotic strain into a widely licensed branded platform. "As someone who has spent years in the microbiome space, I know exactly what it takes to bring a category-defining ingredient to market — and Thryvia has that potential," Bush said. His appointment signals an intent to replicate the B2B licensing model that made BC30 a reference standard in functional ingredient markets.
Bryan Tracy, Co-Founder and CEO of Superbrewed Food, framed the launch as a response to formulation practicality as much as consumer demand. "Thryvia brings science, differentiated positioning and practical formulation together, giving our customers a clear path to products that stand out," he said. The company is offering sample programs and claims-substantiation support to brand partners evaluating the ingredient for upcoming launches, a commercialization approach common among ingredient suppliers targeting mid-tier and emerging brands in the functional food and beverage space.
For operators and buyers tracking ingredient innovation in digestive health, Thryvia's GRAS clearance and room-temperature stability represent the two most operationally significant attributes at launch — removing two friction points that have historically delayed postbiotic adoption in mainstream food and beverage manufacturing.
