Leadership Shake-Up
Superbrewed Food, Inc. has appointed Rizwan Khan as Chief Executive Officer, pairing a seasoned nutrition-industry commercial executive with the company's science-led postbiotic platform as it prepares to court ingredient buyers and strategic partners at SupplySide Global 2026. Khan brings more than three decades of senior leadership across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and nutrition — most recently as SVP Global Head of Sales at Nuritas and before that as Vice President and Global Head of Sales for Kerry Group's Applied Health & Nutrition division. Bryan Tracy, PhD, co-founder, moves to President and retains a board seat.
"Superbrewed's Whole-Cell Intelligence platform combines exceptional scientific innovation with scalable manufacturing to deliver highly differentiated ingredients with enormous commercial potential," Khan said. "I'm excited to partner with Bryan and the team to accelerate growth and deliver transformative solutions to the global nutrition industry."
The Study Numbers
The company also disclosed results from a four-week, independently conducted consumer perception study by Citruslabs evaluating daily 200-mg doses of its flagship ingredient, Thryvia™. Of 37 participants, 33 — or 89% — recorded numerical improvement in overall digestive health scores. Reported benefits included 76% saying their stomach felt more at ease throughout the day, 73% noting less bloating or abdominal distension after eating, and 70% citing improved overall digestive comfort. Onset, per participant self-report, was as fast as 24 hours.
Superbrewed is careful to note the study was an open-label perception exercise and was not designed to establish causality. The company says it is advancing randomized, placebo-controlled human clinical trials to validate the findings. That distinction matters to functional-ingredient buyers and retailers who face increasing regulatory and marketing scrutiny over health claims tied to digestive and immune-health products — a segment that has drawn sustained consumer and reformulation interest across supplements, functional foods, and beverages.
Thryvia differs from conventional live probiotics in that it does not require microbial viability to deliver biological activity. Its shelf stability and low inclusion rate make it compatible with standard food-processing conditions — a practical advantage for manufacturers seeking to differentiate products without redesigning production lines. That shelf-stable profile positions the ingredient alongside growing postbiotic interest from major supplement and functional-food brands, who are increasingly looking for alternatives to the handling constraints of live-culture probiotics.
Award and Trade-Show Outlook
Superbrewed also claimed the Trailblazer Award at the Bridge2Food North America Summit's Protein Innovation Pitch Slam on October 14 in Minneapolis — a competition organized by MBOLD, Protein Industries Canada, and Bridge2Food that featured nine companies from five countries. Judges included representatives from Cargill, Target, AGT Food and Ingredients, Wageningen University & Research, and the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre. Tracy presented Superbrewed's Whole-Cell Intelligence™ platform, which integrates artificial intelligence, microbial discovery, molecular characterization, and industrial fermentation to identify and scale precision postbiotics.
The award arrives as the postbiotic category moves from niche science into mainstream ingredient sourcing conversations. Analysts and trade buyers attending SupplySide Global — where Khan and Tracy will meet customers and partners October 27–30 in Las Vegas — are increasingly evaluating postbiotics alongside probiotics and prebiotics as part of broader gut-health formulation strategies. For ingredient startups, securing a credentialed commercial leader and a peer-reviewed clinical pipeline is often the prerequisite for landing the contract manufacturing and co-development agreements that drive scale. Superbrewed's triple announcement appears designed to signal readiness on all three fronts simultaneously. Coverage of the functional-ingredient landscape from Food & Beverage Magazine has tracked rising retailer demand for science-backed gut-health claims. Separately, the broader functional food and beverage sector continues to attract ingredient investment as brands compete on wellness differentiation.
