Vermont Information Processing (VIP) has launched VIP Intelligence™, a suite of artificial-intelligence features built exclusively for the beverage industry's three-tier supply chain, the company announced Wednesday. The rollout spans pricing, order management, demand forecasting, and business intelligence — embedding AI capabilities inside existing VIP products rather than as a standalone application.
The launch comes roughly six months after Andrew Criezis joined VIP as chief executive officer to lead what the company describes as its next phase of technology investment. VIP is working with QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, to accelerate its AI strategy, and earlier this year convened an internal AI Week that brought together nearly 1,000 employees for hands-on agentic AI training. The company has also added new leadership across technology, people, and sales functions.
The Four Core Capabilities
VIP Intelligence is rolling out across four product areas throughout 2026. AI-Powered Revenue Management in PriceStream automates pricing decisions for distributors by ingesting supplier price changes and generating optimized drafts across thousands of SKU-level variables. AI Predictive Order, embedded in the Connect eCommerce solution and the VIP Sales App, generates item-level order recommendations for each account ahead of every sales call — a workflow change aimed at reducing time spent on routine replenishment and redirecting sales representatives toward account growth.
AI Reporting in iDIG converts complex data queries into a conversational analytics experience, allowing users to pose business questions in plain language and receive reports without manual SQL or dashboard configuration; the feature is available to all customers in beta now. Rounding out the initial rollout, Demand Planning for Suppliers in OrderStream forecasts distributor demand before orders are placed, giving upstream producers visibility into production and inventory requirements — including, the company says, for new products with limited sales history.
Why Beverage Tech Is Betting on AI
The beverage distribution sector has long operated on thin margins and complex regulatory constraints, making it an attractive candidate for AI-driven efficiency tools. Three-tier compliance rules, state-by-state pricing obligations, and the velocity of SKU proliferation — particularly in craft beer, spirits, and ready-to-drink categories — create data management burdens that generic enterprise software was not designed to handle. VIP, which has supplied order and depletion technology to the industry for 50 years, is positioning domain-specific training data as its core competitive advantage over general-purpose AI vendors entering the space.
For distributors and suppliers, the practical stakes center on margin recovery. Pricing errors in a high-volume, multi-state distribution network can erode profitability quickly, while inaccurate demand signals upstream translate directly into overproduction costs or out-of-stock penalties at retail. The beverage alcohol distribution segment has seen intensified consolidation pressure over the past three years, which raises the cost of operational inefficiency for mid-size wholesalers in particular.
"VIP Intelligence represents the next era of beverage technology, and it's only possible because of the people behind it," said Andrew Criezis, CEO of VIP. "Together with our customers, we're helping lead the industry into an agentic AI future."
Additional AI-powered capabilities, including a new supplier reporting offering, are scheduled for later in 2026. The launch is consistent with a broader pattern of technology investment across the foodservice and beverage supply chain, where operators are increasingly scrutinizing data infrastructure as a lever for margin management in a cost-pressured environment.
