Ajinomoto Foods North America (AFNA) is broadening its frozen dumpling portfolio with the addition of Sweet & Spicy Chili Saucy Pork & Chicken Gyoza and Jumbo Chicken Shumai, the Ontario, Calif.-based subsidiary of Japan's Ajinomoto Group announced Monday. Both items are currently on shelf at Albertsons and Ahold banners, with a wider retail rollout scheduled for summer 2026.

The two SKUs follow AFNA's earlier U.S. introduction of authentic Japanese hane-style gyoza — a preparation technique that produces a crispy latticed wing — which the company positioned as a premium, restaurant-quality frozen offering. No revenue projections or suggested retail prices were disclosed in the announcement.

The launch lands as the frozen Asian appetiser segment continues to attract outsized consumer attention. Retail sales of frozen dumplings and potstickers have grown steadily in recent years, driven by demand for convenient, globally inspired meal solutions — a trend that larger frozen-food operators including Bibigo parent CJ CheilJedang and Trader Joe's private-label lines have moved aggressively to capture. AFNA's sequential SKU additions suggest the company is deliberately building category depth rather than relying on a single hero product, a strategy common among brands seeking to secure and defend dedicated freezer-case real estate.

AFNA's parent, the Ajinomoto Group, reported consolidated net sales of approximately ¥1.4 trillion for its most recent fiscal year, with frozen foods representing one of the group's core growth verticals globally. The North American unit has leaned into the "restaurant-quality at home" positioning that has become a central battleground in the premium frozen segment, particularly in the wake of pandemic-era shifts in at-home dining behavior that have proved durable. Industry observers note that placement at both Albertsons — the second-largest conventional supermarket chain in the U.S. — and Ahold Delhaize USA banners provides meaningful initial distribution scale ahead of the broader summer expansion.

AFNA did not provide distribution targets, promotional spending plans, or unit-volume guidance in connection with the launch.
