Feed the Children, the Oklahoma City-based nonprofit focused on eliminating childhood hunger in the United States and internationally, has named Dan Aptor, Davinder Athwal and Fred Sham to its board of directors, effective September 2026. The three appointments bring the organization capabilities in digital transformation, enterprise finance and artificial intelligence — disciplines increasingly central to large-scale food-relief logistics and donor operations.
The New Directors
Aptor currently serves as director of MarTech and Commerce Transformation at Accenture, where he advises clients in communications, media and high-tech on digital growth. His nonprofit governance experience includes the chair role at The Blackbaud Giving Fund, an independent donor-advised fund that channels charitable contributions to organizations worldwide — a background with direct relevance to Feed the Children's fundraising infrastructure. He holds degrees from UC Santa Barbara, New York University and the University of Pittsburgh's Katz School.
Athwal brings more than 25 years of financial leadership across publicly listed companies in the U.S. and abroad. He currently serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Landis+Gyr, an energy-technology company listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Previous CFO postings include Phenom People, Avantax and UGI International, giving him broad experience in capital allocation, enterprise risk management and organizational transformation. He is a certified public accountant credentialed from Kingston University and Long Island University.
Sham rounds out the cohort with a focus on innovation strategy and AI. He works as an independent adviser helping organizations design and scale new products and services, and previously held a director role at What If! Innovation, part of Accenture, where he served Fortune 500 and nonprofit clients. He holds a master's degree in urban planning from Columbia University.
Why Governance Matters Here
"Creating a world where no child goes to bed hungry takes strong leadership, bold thinking and deep collaboration," said Emily Callahan, president and CEO of Feed the Children. The organization's reliance on donor funding, supply-chain coordination and community-level distribution makes financial discipline and technology adoption — the explicit strengths of the incoming trio — operationally material, not merely symbolic.
Board Chair Rhonda Hooper, who also serves as president and CEO of Jordan Advertising, framed the appointments as a deliberate capability build: the combination of Athwal's balance-sheet expertise, Aptor's martech background and Sham's AI advisory work maps directly onto three pressure points facing food-relief nonprofits — donor-acquisition efficiency, logistics optimization and organizational scaling.
Sector Context
The appointments arrive as food-insecurity organizations face a more complex operating environment. Supply-chain volatility, elevated food costs and rising demand for transparency in charitable fund deployment have pushed nonprofit boards toward the kind of financially sophisticated, technology-literate governance profiles Feed the Children is assembling. Peer organizations across the food-aid sector have similarly moved to recruit directors with backgrounds in enterprise software, data analytics and international capital markets.
For food and beverage industry stakeholders — from manufacturers to distributors who partner with hunger-relief nonprofits on product donation programs — a more analytically capable board at an organization of Feed the Children's scale can translate into more efficient intake systems and cleaner reporting on in-kind contributions. The nonprofit's expanded board composition may also support growth in corporate partnerships, an area that food and beverage brands have increasingly prioritized as part of ESG commitments.
Feed the Children's mission and operational approach have been covered previously in food industry nonprofit coverage, where the organization's distribution model has drawn attention as a template for scalable hunger intervention.
