The Product

Hanover Foods Corp., the Pennsylvania-based family-owned processor, has entered the GLP-1-adjacent frozen foods segment with the launch of its Skinny Veg® line — four frozen blended vegetable and grain sides engineered around a five-ingredient formula. The line began appearing in select retail locations in August and is positioned explicitly for consumers managing appetite and nutrition on GLP-1 weight-loss medications.

Each SKU pairs one vegetable with one grain or legume — Broccoli & Quinoa, Brussels Sprouts & Couscous, Spinach & Blackeye Peas, and Riced Cauliflower & Lentils — finished with avocado oil, pepper, and sea salt. The absence of additives and preservatives is central to the product's positioning, a direct response to the clean-label demands that GLP-1 users, who typically eat smaller volumes and prioritize nutrient density, have placed on packaged food manufacturers.

Why It Matters

The GLP-1 consumer cohort has emerged as one of the most consequential demand-side variables in the packaged food industry over the past two years. Users of semaglutide and tirzepatide-class medications report reduced caloric intake and heightened sensitivity to ultra-processed ingredients — a behavioral shift that has prompted reformulation and new-product activity across the frozen and ambient grocery categories. Established CPG players from snack manufacturers to frozen entrée brands have moved to capture this audience; Hanover's Skinny Veg® positions the company alongside that cohort with a relatively low-complexity, single-platform approach.

For a company with roots in canned vegetables dating to 1924, the launch also represents a strategic extension into higher-margin frozen convenience formats. Hanover operates 12 manufacturing and processing locations across the United States and Guatemala and employs approximately 3,000 people, giving it the supply-chain infrastructure to scale the line without significant capital outlay.

Distribution Outlook

The company soft-launched Skinny Veg® through a limited select-store footprint in August 2026 and expects to expand to its full retail network in early 2027. Hanover did not disclose specific retail partners, pricing, or projected revenue contribution from the line. The phased rollout follows a pattern common among mid-size CPG producers stress-testing velocity data before committing to full-chain slotting budgets.

"We know consumers are looking for smart, healthy options that pack a flavorful punch," said Jeff Warehime, Chief Executive Officer of Hanover Foods. "With our Skinny Veg products, Hanover Foods offers a healthy option from a trusted source."

The broader frozen vegetable segment has seen renewed retailer attention as shoppers trade down from premium prepared meals while still seeking nutritional credibility — a dynamic that favors simple-ingredient, low-price-point formats. For Food & Beverage Magazine, the Skinny Veg® debut underscores how legacy processors are adapting legacy category assets to capitalize on pharmaceutical-driven shifts in consumer behavior.
