KPM Analytics has launched the SiftAI FM HD, a significantly upgraded version of its foreign material detection platform that adds clear plastic detection, a new IP69K-rated hygiene enclosure, and AI models trained on four years of live production data. The system is available immediately and targets food processors across protein, seafood, fresh produce, individual quick frozen (IQF), and dairy categories.
The Technology Leap
The original SiftAI FM, introduced in 2022, was deployed primarily in meat and poultry operations to catch low-density contaminants — plastic, rubber, wood, cardboard, and PPE fragments — that conventional X-ray and metal detection equipment routinely miss. The HD generation pushes those capabilities forward on three fronts. Updated AI detection models, refined against years of real-world deployment data, identify a broader range of foreign materials while cutting false rejection rates. A redesigned lighting system reduces image noise caused by the natural color and texture variation found in raw protein and fresh produce, delivering higher-quality data to the inspection engine. And the new enclosure — constructed from food-grade stainless steel and hard-coated polycarbonate — carries an IP69K Extreme Hygiene rating, meaning it withstands full high-pressure washdown procedures without requiring any modification to existing sanitation protocols.
Clear plastic detection is the headline capability addition. Transparent contaminants have historically been among the hardest materials for vision inspection systems to flag reliably; the HD platform's new AI models are specifically engineered to identify them, a gap that processors handling flexible packaging on production lines have long flagged as a critical food safety risk.
Wider Market, Remote Updates
The platform's addressable market expands meaningfully with this release. While prior generations were validated almost exclusively in red meat and poultry environments, the SiftAI FM HD carries full AI inspection support for fresh produce lines, IQF products, and dairy — categories that collectively represent a substantial share of total food processing volume and face their own distinct contamination profiles and regulatory scrutiny.
Jon Gilchrist, Product Manager of Protein & Root Crop Vision Inspection Technologies at KPM Analytics, said the upgrade reflects direct co-development with existing users. "Over the past few years working alongside our key SiftAI FM users in the meat and poultry industry, we together identified clear areas where we could improve our system to broaden the product for more customers," he said. "The SiftAI FM HD is the result of this collaboration as we have learned a lot of what the industry needs to solve its daily food safety, quality, and regulatory demands."
Post-installation, the system receives software, security, and AI model updates remotely from KPM's AI training team — an architecture that means detection accuracy improves continuously without production downtime. That capability matters increasingly to food manufacturers facing both tightening regulatory requirements around foreign material control and rising consumer and retail-buyer scrutiny of quality assurance programs.
For food processors evaluating capital investment in inspection and quality-assurance technology, the SiftAI FM HD enters a market where AI-based vision systems are displacing legacy X-ray lines in applications where contaminant density is too low for radiation-based detection to be reliable. The platform's expansion into produce and dairy also positions KPM Analytics to compete in segments where food safety compliance and retailer specification requirements are increasingly driving automation spend.
