oHy, a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based hydrogen sparkling water brand, has entered the Texas market through a placement at select H-E-B locations, the company said Monday. The rollout, effective immediately, covers several of oHy's core flavors and represents the brand's first retail footprint in the state.
The launch adds Texas — home to one of the fastest-growing functional-beverage consumer bases in the country — to oHy's distribution map. H-E-B, which operates more than 400 stores across Texas and Mexico and consistently ranks among the top-performing regional grocery chains in the United States by consumer loyalty metrics, provides oHy with immediate access to a broad, health-conscious shopper demographic. No financial terms of the retail agreement were disclosed.
OHy positions its product around magnesium-infused hydrogen water, a format it markets as supporting recovery, natural energy and overall hydration — a cluster of claims that has gained traction in the broader functional-water segment. The sparkling water category has seen sustained shelf competition from established players including Liquid Death, Waterloo and a growing cohort of wellness-forward independents, all vying for premium positioning in the better-for-you aisle. A retail entry through a high-volume, loyalty-driven chain such as H-E-B is widely regarded in the industry as a credibility signal for emerging brands. "Texas is a state where consumers are deeply engaged with wellness and performance," a company representative said in the announcement. The brand did not provide unit sales projections, pricing guidance or a timeline for broader statewide expansion beyond the initial select-store placement.
The move reflects a wider pattern in the functional sparkling water space, where challenger brands are increasingly prioritising regional-grocer partnerships over direct-to-consumer channels to build household penetration before seeking national chain listings. oHy's Texas entry will be closely watched as a gauge of consumer appetite for the hydrogen-water format outside its existing markets.
