The Retail Move
Ritter Sport USA is placing its large-format 7.7-ounce DUOs bars in approximately 900 Target stores nationwide beginning this month, marking the German chocolate maker's most significant U.S. mass-retail expansion to date. The bars carry a suggested retail price starting at $9.75, positioning them at the upper end of the premium impulse-candy set. The DUOs line — which pairs two distinct flavor profiles side by side within a single bar — was first introduced in fall 2025 and is now receiving its broadest domestic distribution push.
Two SKUs will anchor the Target rollout: the existing Sweet & Salty DUO, combining caramel cream and salty butter biscuit with chocolate brownie, and the new Cookie DUO, which layers chocolate cream and crunchy cookie pieces against vanilla cream with cocoa and vanilla biscuit, all enrobed in milk chocolate. The 7.7-ounce format is a deliberate play for the sharing and gifting segment, a category that has outpaced standard single-serve chocolate in U.S. tracked-channel data over the past two years.
Caramel Innovation
Alongside the Target launch, Ritter Sport is introducing two caramel-forward seasonal items in premium standup bags: Mixed Caramel Minis and Caramel Choco Cubes. The Mixed Caramel Minis assortment spans three sub-flavors — Caramel Pretzel, Caramel Popcorn, and Double Caramel Crunch — while the Caramel Choco Cubes deliver bite-sized milk chocolate with double caramel layers. Both formats carry an SRP starting at $6.89 and will be available at Publix, CVS, Kroger, The Fresh Market, Raley's, HyVee, and Woodman's. The fall standup bag format competes directly in the seasonal gifting and sharing aisle, where confectionery brands have increasingly shifted volume away from traditional peg-hung bars.
The caramel pivot is deliberate: the company says its Salted Caramel variety has become a leading performer in the U.S. portfolio, and the new items are designed to extend that consumer franchise into more occasions and price points. "From our new DUO bars to the fall caramel innovations, we're continuing to bring fresh chocolate experiences to the category," said Chris Avery, Vice President of Sales for Ritter Sport USA.
Market Position
Ritter Sport claims the title of fastest-growing premium chocolate brand in the United States, citing Nielsen total U.S. expanded all-outlet combined data for the week ending July 11, 2026. The privately held parent company, Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG, reported sales of 605 million euros in 2024 across its global portfolio, which includes the Ritter Sport and Amicelli brands sold in more than 100 countries. The Waldenbuch, Germany-based manufacturer employs roughly 1,900 people and has operated as balance-sheet climate-neutral since 2020.
The Target partnership gives Ritter Sport access to a shopper base that skews toward premium and better-for-you grocery, a demographic that has historically over-indexed on European import chocolate. For Target, the addition broadens a confectionery assortment that has leaned heavily on domestic brands. Retailers in the premium candy space have been actively seeking differentiated European imports to fill shelf gaps left by consolidation in the specialty food sector. Ritter Sport's colorful square format and modular flavor architecture also lend themselves to the kind of seasonal endcap programming that drives incremental volume in mass retail confectionery during the fourth quarter.
