J.M. Smucker Co. (SJM) is rolling out a limited-edition line of Milk-Bone Krypto Soft & Chewy Mini Treats in a licensed tie-up with DC Studios' upcoming Supergirl film, the company announced Tuesday. The product, themed around Krypto — the super-powered canine companion featured in the movie — marks Smucker's latest effort to use entertainment IP to lift velocity in its pet-snacks portfolio.
Smucker did not disclose financial terms of the DC Studios licensing arrangement, nor did it provide unit-volume or revenue projections for the limited run. The company's pet-foods segment, which includes Milk-Bone alongside Meow Mix and Rachael Ray Nutrish, generated net sales of approximately $2.9 billion in fiscal year 2025, making it one of the largest contributors to the group's roughly $8.0 billion in annual revenue.
The pet-treat category has become a key battleground for packaged-food conglomerates as consumer spending on companion animals has proved more resilient than broader discretionary food purchases. Limited-edition and licensed formats have gained traction as a mechanism to command shelf space and generate social media engagement without permanent SKU additions — a tactic used by rivals including General Mills' Blue Buffalo and Nestlé Purina. For Smucker, which has been integrating its Hostess acquisition and managing commodity cost pressures, incremental brand activations in pet offer a relatively low-capital path to revenue.
The Supergirl co-promotion aligns Milk-Bone with what DC Studios is positioning as the marquee theatrical event of summer 2026. Licensing deals of this type typically carry short shelf windows of eight to twelve weeks around a film's release date, limiting inventory risk while concentrating marketing dollars in a high-visibility window. Smucker has not specified retail distribution channels or suggested retail pricing for the Krypto treats.
The announcement adds to a pattern of entertainment-linked pet-product launches tracked across the sector, as brands seek to convert moviegoers into pet-aisle shoppers. Smucker's next scheduled earnings disclosure, covering its fiscal first quarter ending July 2026, is expected to provide additional color on pet-segment performance and promotional investment.
