Two of the forage industry's most established names — Standlee and Anderson Hay — have merged to form Standlee-Anderson, a new parent company that will oversee both brands and position the combined entity as the global leader in premium forage and animal wellness.
The deal, announced September 21, brings together more than a century of combined industry experience. Standlee has built its reputation primarily in the domestic U.S. market, while Anderson Hay has developed significant international distribution reach. The pairing creates a supply network with both domestic scale and cross-border capability — a structure increasingly sought by large-scale equine, livestock, and companion-animal feed buyers who demand supply assurance alongside product consistency.
The Strategic Logic
Rather than consolidating brands into a single label, Standlee-Anderson will preserve each company's existing customer-facing identity. The brands, product lines, and commercial teams will remain intact, while back-end resources — supply chain infrastructure, agronomic expertise, and operational capital — are pooled under the new parent structure. That approach mirrors consolidation strategies seen across specialty agricultural commodities, where acquirers have learned that brand equity in relationship-driven markets is difficult to rebuild once disrupted.
Dusty Standlee, named Managing Director for Standlee-Anderson, framed the deal as a supply-network and capability play. "Together, we're building on that foundation by expanding our expertise, strengthening our supply network, and continuing to invest in the future of premium forage and animal wellness," he said. Mark Anderson, also serving as Managing Director, emphasized continuity for existing grower and customer relationships: "Joining Standlee allows us to build on that legacy while creating new opportunities for our customers, growers, employees, and partners."
What It Means for the Market
The premium forage segment — encompassing timothy, alfalfa, orchard grass, and blended hay products targeted at performance horses, small animals, and specialty livestock — has seen sustained demand growth as pet-humanization trends and performance-animal ownership expand the buyer base. Retailers and distributors in the animal nutrition and feed category have increasingly favored vendors with guaranteed supply programs, particularly following the supply-chain disruptions that rattled agricultural commodities markets in 2022 and 2023.
Standlee-Anderson's stated emphasis on "assured supply" directly addresses that buyer concern. With Anderson's international sourcing relationships combined with Standlee's domestic growing and processing footprint, the merged company is positioned to offer customers redundancy that neither could fully provide independently.
No financial terms of the transaction were disclosed. Both Managing Directors will guide the combined organization as it pursues what the company describes as continued investment in innovation, operational excellence, and animal wellness solutions.
