TRUBAR, the female-founded functional snack brand available in more than 18,000 retail doors, is stepping outside the bar aisle for the first time with the launch of TRUBAR Drizzle — a line of dessert-inspired mini rice cakes debuting exclusively at Walmart on October 27.
The move represents the brand's first category extension since its founding and signals a deliberate pivot from single-format protein bar company to broader snacking platform.
The Product
Each 1-ounce serving of TRUBAR Drizzle delivers 5 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and 130 calories. The line is 100% plant-based and formulated without seed oils, gluten, dairy, or sugar alcohols — a clean-label profile consistent with the brand's existing bar portfolio. Three SKUs anchor the launch: Hey Shorty, It's Your Birthday Cake; S'more to Love; and Cinnamon Roll With It.
At retail, Drizzle will be sold in 4-ounce bags priced at approximately $4.74 and a 10-count variety pack of individually portioned 1-ounce bags priced at approximately $11.99. The Walmart exclusivity positions the line for high-volume trial at a mass-market price point before any anticipated broader rollout.
Category Play
The mini rice cake segment has historically competed on low-calorie positioning, with brands such as Quaker and Lundberg anchoring the shelf around light snacking rather than functional nutrition. TRUBAR's entry brings a protein-and-fiber value proposition to a format that has seen renewed consumer interest as better-for-you snacking continues to outpace conventional salty snacks in unit growth.
Erica Groussman, Founder and CEO of TRUBAR, framed the launch as a category gap opportunity. "With Drizzle, we saw an opportunity to take everything consumers already love about mini rice cakes and give it the TRUBAR treatment, delivering a snack that offers both indulgence and meaningful nutritional benefits," she said. "This is a big moment for us because it's our first step beyond bars, and we're just getting started."
The strategic logic echoes moves made by other functional snack brands that have leveraged strong bar-aisle equity to migrate into adjacent formats — a pattern covered in detail in our analysis of better-for-you snack brand extensions and in reporting on Walmart's growing role as a launch platform for emerging food brands.
What's Next
TRUBAR frames Drizzle explicitly as "the first step" in a category expansion, language that implies additional formats are in development. The brand's existing retail footprint — which includes Costco, Whole Foods, Albertsons, and Erewhon alongside its Amazon presence — provides a ready network for any follow-on distribution push beyond the Walmart launch window.
For foodservice and grocery buyers, the launch is a signal that functional snack brands with established bar-aisle credibility are increasingly willing to compete in the broader better-for-you snacking aisle, compressing the white space available to legacy rice cake producers.
