Tyson Foods Invests $1.2 Billion in Plant-Based Protein Manufacturing Facility
Tyson Foods, Inc. reshuffles leadership ranks, with implications for operators across the sector.
Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) announced today that it will invest $1.2 billion to build a new plant-based protein manufacturing facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, the largest single capital investment in the company's plant-based portfolio to date.
## Background and mandate
The 850,000-square-foot facility will produce a range of plant-based and blended protein products under Tyson's Raised & Rooted brand and as a co-manufacturer for foodservice and retail partners. The plant will create approximately 1,800 jobs and is scheduled to begin production in late 2027.
"Consumer interest in plant-based has matured beyond the early hype cycle into a steady, profitable category," said Tyson CEO Donnie King. "We're investing for the long term, with manufacturing flexibility that lets us produce traditional, blended, and fully plant-based products on the same footprint."
## Why it matters
For industry operators, this is another data point in the structural change reshaping the markets sector. Watch for follow-on moves from competitors and reactions from key channel partners in the coming quarters.
The investment comes amid a broader rebound in plant-based protein category sales after a multi-year slowdown.
